Very stressful but interesting! Low margin of error (the industry has thin margins), customers often didn’t have papers or know their model numbers and would send in blurry pics of their watches (then get upset if the quote lowered because we guessed the wrong watch), so many scammers, it was a bummer having to tell someone trying to sell their late granddad’s Rolex that it was fake, etc. Quote volume and turnaround time was grueling.
We had to be an expert on 7-8 brands, informed on another 10+, and knew dozens of references. Many people sold their watches because they were falling on hard times, and (understandably) fought tooth and nail over every penny. If you ever wanted to help a customer by throwing them a few extra bucks to earn their business, but then lost money on the sale, have fun explaining that to the board during your monthly review! “Why are your margins on sale 123ABC low?” “Well, a really sweet widow was selling her husband’s Breitling, and had to pay medical bills, and we didn’t dock her $150 despite the ridiculous number of missing links in the bracelet, and wow I’ll just stop talking now, we won’t do that again.” Lol Great stories and some good times despite a difficult working environment…. Fun trip down memory lane. Thanks for asking. |

I'd be interested to see the damage on the rehaut, also quite curious as to how they managed to damage that in the first place...
