Also curious why this is an insurance claim.
Regardless, congratulations and post some pictures when you can. |

All, my policy covers theft, loss, and damage (breakage). In this case, the mainspring of the watch broke and required an overhaul. While in for service, a few other issues were noted (glass, worn crown, etc...). It's all covered.
I know there are lots of opinions about getting watches insured and here is mine. I got my daughter diamond earrings for her bat mitzvah. Yes, I know that is insane. That's what she wanted, so that's what I got her. I insured them through the same insurance company. If anything happens, we're covered and there is no deductible. Yes, it's a yearly fee, and yes you hope nothing will ever happen, but isn't it nice to know that when something does happen, it just gets fixed? or just gets replaced no issues with home insurance, no issues at all really. I know someone is going to post a picture of a handgun and tell me that the only insurance he needs is (insert handgun name here). I think you are missing the point. Depending on your policy, it's not about theft, read your policy. (same goes for homeowners, but that's a different discussion). For those in the US: Hodinkee does NOT cover repairs. Jewelers Mutual DOES. If you want to know the difference, look no further. |

I have JM as well. Never had to use it, but it’s good to know that they are coming through for you! The policy isn’t very expensive, and that is exactly what it claims…theft, loss, breakage.

Just got it back. I’m ok with this polishing job. The edges are still sharp to the touch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Apologies if I missed it in the thread, but did the service center identify the damage that occurred/what caused the pop?

Nope, they just said it needed an overhaul. I didn't press them for details, but I can tell you that the mainspring was broken (or the pivot for the mainspring had broken). The upside now is that the watch is working perfectly. What does that mean? When I go from position 1 (winding) to position 2 (gmt), to position 3 (set the real-time) and I go back to position 2, the keyless doesn't lock up. It was super annoying before. I guess whoever worked on it saw that and said"huh, this isn't right". It's a known issue on the early 116710's.
I am extremely happy with how this came out. RSC did a great job and it was way faster than I expected. |
