Omega seems to be a safe choice if you want a luxury watch that punches beneath its weight in thievery.
Except the data above are filtered. The percentages are for watches above about $3,750. This knocks off many Tags and even Omegas (especially considering quartz womens offerings). Was it claimed value (insured value?) then even more Tags and Omegas being stolen would fall well under that threshold. Virtually no Rolexes would. The market share of 30% is only comparable if the same basis of comparison (the same threshold, applied in the same way to the same product mix).

Yes, we would definitely seek to replace it since policy is a Replacement Cost risk and affords language that we can replace with like kind and quality or cash out, at our option.
If for some reason we are compelled to cash out due to not being able to readily obtain a replacement, we would do so at an actual cash basis, meaning a depreciated amount and upon proof of replacement by customer, we would pay remainder owed. Obviously, that was before the bubble where these watches are now more to replace than when new. I have been retired for five years and don’t know current practice, if evolved.
Interestingly, I can tell you first hand companies like JM have a direct working relationship with Rolex to replace even the most difficult to come by references.

That’s very interesting! I wondered how one would replace an item you couldn’t otherwise buy.

Interesting to know there’s a sort of back door for the insurance firms through Rolex — I wonder if it means that one could be sourced relatively quickly these days if it was stolen!?

I must admit even myself who I see as pretty switched on and I suppose wouldn’t be what I’d call an easy target, I’m 6ft 2 and 17 stone almost find myself for the first time being more cautious now where I wear my watches.

People are getting stabbed for nothing here. There is a knife epidemic in London at the moment and walking around with a £10-15k watch on is risky.

These thieves know exactly what they’re looking for and know the worth of these things.

Times have changed unfortunately so in a city where we have increased violent crime and less police and less crimes solved I’d say just be smart where you wear your watch.

You’re basically walking around with a see through briefcase packed with thousands and thousands of pounds on show for all and sundry to see.

I agree with you, I live in London too but I have changed my behaviours, especially when I go up the West End. This time of year is obviously the worst and I tend to wear Omegas rather than Rolex.

I also work in the City and I am happy to wear Rolex when I am there and have a long sleeved shirt on.

Sad times that it has come to this and its the levels of violence they use that scares me, not losing a watch.

Note to self: when visiting London wear Tudor or Panerai.

Still too flash. I'd actually recommend Casio at the most...

I’ve never been scared enough to wear a Casio.
