Sorry I missed this …

I really haven’t got an answer for you on that one, because I don’t measure it that way. I’ve driven roughly 5100 KM since December 2023 and I’m averaging 2.9 liters per 100 KM.

I think when I’m in Hybrid mode out on the hwy, I get about 5.3 liters per hundred KM.

I hope that’s of some help

Got one as our 3rd car/around town beater and actually love it. Didn’t qualify for the tax credit so just purchased the cheapest model 3. Love the buying process on your phone then just picking up at your local Tesla center. Soooooo much more efficient. Have solar and in CA so saves me around $800 a month on my wife’s gas bill vs her driving her AT4 around town for kids school, sports and activities. She’s put over 5,000 miles on it in 3 months and it’s just so efficient and has great tech. That all being said I would never have only an EV and not an ICE as well but the car serves a purpose and does that exceptionally well. The new 3s are also much nicer and more quiet than my buddy’s previous generation.

I test drove the 3 today. Have to get used to no braking. Very fast, very comfortable. Will try to rent one for a week.

This is the crux, I think. The solar panels & the around-town use is perfect. IMO, anything outside of this makes the switch to fully-BEV tougher.

Yeah, I’m warming up to the idea of having a Tesla for driving “around town.” But we’ll never be without an ICE vehicle. We’ll always have at least one ICE vehicle in the garage.

Hybrids are the way to go. The instant torque the electric side gives you while the engine catches up makes it feel like a full power ICE. A proper hybrid, like the Toyota Synergy drive, gets pretty impressive fuel economy without feeling like an under powered economy car.

I get over 500 miles on a tank of gas in my Prius. I put Stabil in it to keep the gas fresh between fillups when we’re at home. On road trips we stop when our bladder tells us, not when the car needs to.

Been driving EV over a decade now but it's not for everyone. How long long is your commute? Do you care for level 2/3 drive? Where do you plan to charge your car? Do you live in climate where temp.drops below 40 ( battery range drop during winter time)

Tesla has one of the best charging networks/SW.
Few drawbacks are lots of plastic/ride quality/tire wear (not just tesla but most EV) you get what you get paid for.

Here are few EV we current own except MX due to recent battery issues (it died after 4 yrs with 52k) they replaced with refurbished battery (yup). And traded in for BMW Ix.

So, I see losses around 20-25% for a Model Y Long Range. I'm around Toronto so that you can get a feel for the climate. I would suggest the OP do some research about the standard range and long range. The long range should only be charged up to 80% to improve the lifespan of the battery. This is a function of the different battery chemistries. However, the LFP pack in the standard range can be charged to 100% without any issues. Depending on the climate and need for AWD vs. RWD you can get almost the same range for a lot less money.

An EV for around town (< 100mi/day) would be great. Unless you're shelling out Lucid Sapphire money, the ride quality just isn't there, even in a Model S, IMO. Anecdotal story: A friend of ours has a Hyundai Kona EV. It may be the slowest EV around & he ONLY level 1 charges at home, nightly. (Level 1 = regular 120v wall outlet, not the level 2 "washer/dryer heavy duty" outlet). He gets about 4 miles of range per hour on the charger & charges between 6-9 hours per night. (You can apparently set the car to the hours you want it to charge.) He has had zero issues in his commute (approx. 45mi round-trip) in terms of range anxiety. I imagine he doesn't drive the car 1-2 weekend days. The family also has a Forester for anything else.

My wife has a '19 Honda Insight Touring. It gets like 47mpg all the time. This seems like the move for the future.

I don’t know your budget or threshold for pain -
If money is no object, then please consider a BMW I-7 (about $155K)
If you want a great Tesla, then consider the S-Plaid (about $90K)
If you want the best bang for the buck, please consider the Tesla Y.
I would only as a last resort buy or lease the Tesla 3 as there are very good alternatives…
My 35 year old daughter the Pediatrician drives a 3 and swears by it - I drove it and meh…….

I drove a new Model 3 Performance in a test drive this last weekend. Extremely impressed. Lots faster accelerating than my last Porsche 911. Interior still not up to Mercedes quality but much improved over the previous model. Handling is fine, a bit heavy feeling, but reasonable, considering the weight of the car. Appearance is significantly improved with the changes they made at the front end which is both lower and has a bit of a scoop at the bottom. Anyone considering an EV these days should test drive one. Just make sure your seatbelt is fastened.

wife got a 3 a little over a year ago - GREAT for bombing around town doing business errands - this car excels at this task, we limit our range for "going out of town" to around 100mile considering it has about a 270 mile range- ON FLAT TERRAIN - without the AC on - so taking it up in the mountains in the middle of summer = about 125 miles of real, useful, range - anything but perfect conditions and you can cut the posted mileage in half. again if you are putting 50-75 miles a day of stop and go errands its PERFECT.

Would you consider getting one over a Porsche 911?

This questions feels like “A mini van can sit 8, should I get a mini van instead of 911?”

I think the answer is what do you need? Mini van can do one job better than a 911, doesn’t automatically means mini van is one to get.

M3P may have more accessible power right off the line, I don’t feel like that means M3P is a better car.

Choose the car that suits your need and situation. I can’t imagine a lot of people would cross shop a M3P against a 911.

I would totally pick the M3P over 911 as my only car, if …

1. I have to daily drive with more than 2 adult size people
2. 911 is easily over twice then price of a M3P and that may cause a problem on my balance sheet
3. I don’t want to stand out too much with a Porsche badge on my car
4. Gas is now $8 a gal and electricity is only $0.55 a kw, and I drive a lot.
5. I live my life one traffic light at a time and I must win all of them.

I am still not sure what exactly this car is supposed to be doing better than a 911.

There was a BYD Seal performance on display at our local centre.

They are arranging a test drive for me.

Looks good in blue.

Not willing to go EV yet to early in the game with much hype, however have enjoyed this thread.

No. Have a GT3RS which I’m not parting with. The acceleration of the 3 Performance ( they say 0-60 in 2.9 seconds which seems right) is amazing for a vehicle with four seats, requires little maintenance etc. and costs $60K. Plan to order one.

They're becoming more common here and saw a lot of BYD in Hong Kong and mainland China last week, they look promising

Plenty of Teslas have burned to the ground.
