An engineering weak point will fail if it is not redesigned prior to manufacturing.

In this case the strap held up as did the spring bar?

The weak single lug connection was the weak point.

As shown in the pix.

There are mandatory consumer rights in Australia and then there are also the manufacturers warranties.

Their warranties do not over-ride consumer rights.

I have received the very first steel Code in my country, and have been wearing it extensively, no issue with the lugs there, as steel is significantly harder than gold. So I wouldn't hold off on it just based on this incident.

That said, I find the initial reaction from AP to the OP quite disappointing and hope they come to their senses.
