Well for a start call one of the Rolex service centers such as New York (212) 758-7700 and ask. I am sure they can direct you to the proper person(s) to answer your questions. To answer another question you had the mark up on Rolex is 40%. A dealer buys a Rolex for 40% less than the listed price. Grey dealers do well as they in all fairness buy Rolex watches cheep. Many people will sell a Rolex for $2,000 less than they bought it for because they want the money or they trade towards other watches.

Many people on this forum have done this, so may not admit to it as they may feel sad they gave their watch away. A grey dealer does what business schools teach buy low sell high. Many turn a good profit and make a good living.

Most all dealers, grey or AD are having a harder time right now as many people cut out buying expensive items like Rolex. If you may not have a job in six months are you really going to go out and buy a Rolex? Realistically you may not.

I observed a grey dealers offerings in Salt Lake a week ago. Some of the deals included a two year old Sub no date for $2,500. A TT Sub for $4,900, and a Sea Dweller 5 years old $3,800. All of these watches were four years old or newer. The lady said Rolex is not selling as good as it did in the past.

Swiss watch authorities advised in Watch Times the country is down as much as 42% in watch exports to the U.S. alone. This means watches are not going out the doors and many AD s are sitting on their product.

Another AD friend said her store is lucky to sell 2 Rolex watches a day when over two years ago 6 to 7 Rolex watches left the store daily. FYI

My AD has been around since 1948. Im not sure when they started selling Rolexs. The local AD lost his Rolex dealership for some reason. Ron

For real of course.

If you haven't heard anything from them yet, don't dispair, it's a good sign as they almost always respond with a non approval the same day.

Hello Pep, If you are very serious to become a Rolex AD, have a decent and a friendly chat with three or four existing ADs in different cities who are in this business already. Collect some inputs from them. Identify the town/city where you need to put up your business, indicate the floor area available, check your bank balance (this should be truly impressive). Now take a flight to Rolex offices in Switzerland. Seek an appointment with the guy who has time to listen to you. Go for an impressive PowerPoint presentation on your laptop to include detailed information on your town/city and your shop design and so on. Take 3-4 guys from this Rolex office to a grand business lunch after the show. Ensure that you keep in touch with them on email and telephone once you return. DONT GIVE UP - COME WHAT MAY! You will be a winner boy! Where there is a will, there is a way!

Good luck!

Thank you very much. I don't think it's going to work out for me. I'm in construction and not in the jewelry trade. Just thought it would be a nice way to make some extra $ in m spare time. But I guess I'll stick to fishing.

It's like everything in life, if your not willing to dedicate yourself completely then don't bother half assing it.

Yes, I have worked hard all my life - there is no substitute for good, hard, honest work - a lot of blood, sweat and tears!!

I was in the Middle East for almost 7 long years and was able to save a lot there. I've always held good paying jobs and I have been careful with my money - no smoking, no gambling, no womanising and just the occasional beer!! And definitely no CREDIT CARDS - they kill you!!

I've always tried and lived on the simple, straight-forward policy: If you can't afford it, don't buy it!! And if you can, then go for it!! Can't get any simpler than that, can it? We should all try and live within our means and NEVER try to live up with the Joneses!!

Cheers - JJ

If more people did this, and lived this way, the economy would not be in the toilet where it is now. I know in America more than anywhere, people LIVE off their credit cards. If I cant pay cash I wait, simple as that.
