Interesting as I find it to be my most comfortable watch and absolutely love it. The good thing about this hobby is that there are plenty of options for all!

I like the 222 better...its different, and more sutble...even in the yellow gold it just feels less flashy then a Royal Oak....more of a stealth wealth thing...

Have you ever looked at the Romain Gauthier C?

They’re a bit less expensive than the LF, not automatic, and the movement design and finishing is “nouveau” for lack of a better term rather than classic.

I haven’t handled either in the metal.

While I love AP and VC...no doubt the 222 bracelet is to me FAR more comfortable than the 16202. The 222 bracelet is outstanding.

I have and got accepted for one of the WG Insight Micro Rotor limited edition. The issue for me is a two year wait. I have to make decision soon. The LF Sport for me is absolutely amazing. Looks, feel, movement and finish all top level. I am really looking forward to adding this new 222 in a timely manner! Thanks,

You always have the slapping banger pieces. For me the wait I don’t really mind because I already have way too many watches.

Thanks Louis and you as well! 37 years of collecting and still love the hobby. As for the wait, my other watches won’t mind lol. I actually just emailed them back today after your post!

Why can't we love both watches instead of just 1?

Haha!

I feel the need to get something but it’s going to have to be pretty awesome to unseat my Le Mans.

I think the VC 222 in either metal is super nice but I kind of like the blue dial on the SS.

The LF you have and the Romain Gauthier C are probably more different than anything in my collection and I’m tempted to get one.

The problem is that these watches don't exist in a vacuum. AP gatekeeps production on the 16202 as basically a reward for buying the rest of their collection. The 222 while certainly not doable as a first timepiece with the brand, is definitely more accessible. What this means is that the market prices of the 16202ST and the gold 222 are about the same.

If we're comparing 16202ST and steel 222 I'm going to go 16202ST (I have 15202ST). The way the light reflects off the links is quite unique, and arguably the stronger icon with a better dial. However if we're comparing the YG 222 to the 16202ST, I'm picking the 222 every time. The YG toned down with brushing and a nautral beige dial presents a restrained elegance that is unmatched with the 16202ST. The heft makes it more substantial on the wrist, yet it is a slimmer profile that is easier to fit under a dress cuff, and fells more appropriate with a suit.

The LF is amazing! Probably my favorite integrated sports watch to date. Makes for a great daily watch. Highly recommend it!

Many comments here favours the 222 which I respect but handling both there is no doubt that the AP is far more premium .

Infact I believe the VC Simple date overseas is far more premium that the 222. putting the history aside

That is the nature of hype, one cant comprehend it; one can be part or outside… I don’t get what so special about this watch particularly given alternatives. Perhaps it was special in 1970s, today it is an example of an overpriced under featured offering…

Talked to local VC boutique yesterday about steel 222. They said they can register my interest, but it won’t be my first or second VC piece. Suggested to go on a 222 “journey” with them.

I told them to kick rocks. )

Few months and it will be available as the gold 222

I was also invited to view the watch today. To my surprise I actually felt a little underwhelmed when seeing it in person. I think it was mainly attributed to the blue dial feeling a bit dull and it didn't really wow me. I'm not sure if the watch still being wrapped in plastic had an effect on the experience or not, but I still registered my interest and will see how I feel when it arrives.

The fit and finish of the watch was beautiful, the bracelet was amazing, and on my slightly over 7" wrists it did not feel too small. It felt about the same or maybe even slightly bigger than my CdV.

Interestingly enough my wife liked it a lot more than me. She said she liked how understated the blue dial was and preferred it to the Overseas blue or the AP blue. I felt the opposite. I would personally take the 16202 over this.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The dial possibly being a little flat is my main concern. Did it have any texture at all?

If there was any texture I didn't notice it at all. It's just a very matte and flat/subtle looking blue. It's not bad by any means and I'm sure some will love it, I just thought the blue on the Overseas was more interesting to look at.

The dial looks pretty identical to the first blue 222’s. So it clearly is purposeful and has a true vintage vibe or look. A lacquer dial would detract from what they were trying to achieve. I think they did a good job when you look at the original.

I had really high hopes for the 222. Went to see it today and it felt underwhelmed. The dial is matte, plain and it just did not have a wow factor. Sure the bracelet is nice but it feels like a jewelry not a watch. 16202 is so far ahead, imho.
Had the 222 gold next to it and a couple of Overseas models.
Between steel 222 and steel blue Overseas I would take the second every time.

For those who handle both 222 and 15/16202, is the bracelet edges on the 222 as "sharp" as it is on the AP?

No, 222 links are rounded off more/don't catch as much
