Wow, it seems that Speedmaster has a lot of fans!
I think that keeping it and add later DJ or any other is the better choice. |

I'd keep the speedy or whichever one you liked best.
I wouldn't worry about levels, there's a lot of levels. Get into that thinking and you really have to get to a 4 digit daytona and a Patek 1518 to be near end-game. Quote:

The Speedmaster is iconic. Save and add a DJ if you want one.

Keep the speedy!!! Out of my entire non-Rolex collection, my speedy is the only watch that I would never consider moving unless I had to. For me, it's one of the most iconic chronographs ever made and holds a very high position in my collection. I just can't see not owning one.
On the flip side, they're ubiquitous pieces. So, if you can move it to get the Rolex you want now, you can always grab another speedy in the future. But if you're set on only two watches, no way I'd choose the DJ over the speedy.

I have a Submariner, Speedmaster, and DJ41 (along with others).
I'd stick with the Submariner and Speedmaster if I were you. |

Do you want a somewhat dressier watch?
If so go with the DJ Personally I would not trade my Speedy for a DJ, I can't recall the last time I wore my DJ (its been a couple years at least) A DJ is a great watch Id say more versatile than the Speedy

I would move a 3861 to make way for a few Rolex models.
A DJ is not one of them though. One other note. You may be surprised on what your trade/resell value is on the Speedmaster (assuming black dial). I was when I sold mine. It was about $1000 less than I was hoping. I wish I would have kept mine. |

Another vote for keeping the speedy and getting a few additional straps for it to switch it up from time to time. As like others, I can't recall the last time I wore my DJ41. Will definitely be on the chopping block at some point this year to make way for other pieces.

This is a tough choice. I wear both watches in rotation and love them both. Easier to get the Speedy later if that is a possibility! Good luck

In 2022 I sold a blue, smooth, Jubilee DJ41 and got a Speedmaster, so here are my thoughts. As much as I do miss the DJ from time to time, I like having the Speedy more than the DJ, so I wouldn't.

I’m with the consensus. The speedy is a step above a DJ. You may regret moving it along for the decidedly pedestrian DJ.

With the Sub staying, I’d keep the Speedy for its unique history and charm. The Datejust is a fantastic choice, but It’s hard to beat the legacy of the Speedy!
