I currently have a very good relationship with my ad but it started out with a phone call I really didn't stop in however I did keep in touch with the manager I let him know that I would much rather purchase from an authorized dealer instead of the gray Market I let him know that I had been purchasing some Rolex watches from the gray Market and as we kept in touch it took about maybe a couple of months and then I got a call from the manager who said he asked the owner if he could call me and offer a black date sub from that moment on they have been my only authorized dealer I have ever purchased from the service is so outstanding it's amazing. Oh and I have purchased some amazing Rolex watches from them since.

Just got to get my name down for a Daytona now :-)

Many thanks everyone for the advice :-)
Great outcome. Congratulations!

Welcome!

As someone who thought I'd get a watch from my AD with some big events/anniversaries in my life and after spending a decent amount of money on jewelry at the same AD, I have been offered ZERO watches in over 2 years of waiting. I saw some Youtube videos that suggested that if you share that you are having a big event with your dealer (truthfully) that they will possibly make that request happen for you.. .well, I've discovered that that's actually B.S. It doesn't mean that is CAN happen, or may happen for someone with an extensive relationship with a AD and/or SA. And indeed, anything is possible. But these stories of people going in to an AD and then being offered a SS Daytona in a month or two is more like someone telling you they won the lottery on a scratch-off at the gas station. Don't believe the hype.

Looking back to two years ago, I wish I would have just paid the difference and aquired one of the watches I have on my list back then. Seriously. Two years of my life waiting to replace a watch I've had for a very long time, only to just constantly think that maybe this week I'll get that call for my dream watch. I feel like I've been played to some extent- my SA has led me to believe that I was probably going to get a watch on the "next batch" several times but it's never materialized. When I stopped in after that "batch" was supposed to arrive to buy my wife some jewelry, I respectfully asked about that watch that was supposed to come on.. only to be told that "the last batch was all datejusts" or "nothing fit my request" lol. If I email my SA to ask what's going on with my watch request, I just get ignored. Doesn't matter that I just dropped $7,000 on jewelry. They are happy to take that and keep dangling the Rolex possibilities.

I had the same view you did- I didn't want to deal with the grey market , both because of prices and/or not getting it new, on top of worrying that I might end up with a fake. But now I know to just go to a trusted dealer (you have to do your research).

Now I'm still on that list, and it will be glorious to get that call.. but I'm never going to think they actually will call me. Don't fall for it. I could have had a really nice watch 2 years ago.

So I'd ask yourself.. are you willing to wait? Sure the stories are out there of people getting a watch fast, but I don't know anyone personally that can say that outside of youtube and internet folklore...
