Your son's in the cadaver lab! I remember meeting my husband's cadaver his first year in school. She seemed very nice, but didn't have a lot to say.

It's a rite of passage, for sure.

At the end of the course, did they hold a memorial service for all of the cadavers? They did at my husband's school - to honor the men and women who donated their bodies to medical study. It was really quite an emotional thing.

Lisa: I remember my son saying something about that, I'll have to check, but it sounds about right. I know that in truth, they are extremely sensitive to the fact that their cadavers were real people. Notice the covers in the photo...there were maybe a thousand people touring the med school that day following the 'white coat' ceremony, and no one got to look at those bodies, out of respect.......

Dan, you are a welcome addition to the coffeeshop!

Wow - that cadaver stuff is amazing. I have so much respect for doctors and the training they go through. I can't imagine.

I felt the same way, Ashley. Now I'm glad I'm not a doctor - it's tough enough just being married to one. Couldn't imagine two lifestyles like that and trying to keep a family together. I guess you'd just have to hire other people to be your family for you.

In all honesty, I would much prefer being a psychologist like I will be doing school for, but I have a definite interest in biology, and would love to dissect anything that I can get my hands on. The autopsy videos I've seen online... I would LOVE to take part in one! The human body is so utterly fascinating...

I like his audition even better than Susan Boyle's - and she was pretty amazing. I love to watch him on YouTube - I don't think I'll ever get tired of that audition video.

It was better! I expected him to be great, but he was more than that. I wonder what he is doing now?

I bet you would enjoy being a surgical tech, Ash. I worked weekends and summers during college, and it was a great way to get my "fix" without having to go through so much schooling. You get to hold retractors, handle instruments, sponge up the bleeding, irrigate and suction, and cut suture. I was trained on the job (this was 1983) but I'm sure certification would be required nowadays. Last I checked it was a one-year vocational course. The nice thing about having that job was that I could work an occasional weekend or holiday even after I got our of school, just to make some extra money and also because I missed the hospital environment. I continued to work part time as a tech for 15 years after I graduated with my journalism degree - I liked doing it that much.

I googled him and he has a website - there was quite a lot out there about him. He seems to be doing well and enjoying his fame. He even got his teeth fixed.
