It is because GME announced adding Ryan Cohen (founder of CHWY) and two former colleagues to their board. Ryan is one of the largest shareholders and has been a huge activist to change their business plan to more digital sales. This caused the shares to rise which then caused a short squeeze as GME is one of the highest shorted stocks so shorts had to cover causing the price action you see today

GME was nuts today. Will be interesting to see if it can go on a multiday runner. I put some puts in at 28 from 35ish range. Shall see, nothing major just got bored as usual.

ARKX space ETF announced. I guess you would call this Cathie Woods' speculations on speculative stocks lol. Apart from MAXR (which I own), there are very few established space-focused companies to invest in, and most new ones are either SPACs or virgin galactic. That said, for those interested, GOOGL owns a little over 8% of SpaceX from their investment of $1 billion a few years ago.

I really like Affirm and even used their 0% promos with 2 online retailers for watches.

However, their IPO performance was insane today. Even the IPO price was already high even before it was increased. It’s a crowded space.

Cheers to those who made money today in it.

Re GME my understanding was today’s rise was due to a gamma squeeze following some crazy options activity. Volatility is through the roof now given all the recent news for this stock. The short squeeze may be yet to happen.

OK guys, I'm watching this thread for a while: BNTX, Biontech, partner of Pfizer in the Covid vax game, buy and hold, or trade on news?
Its a brilliant collection of people caught in the headlines, delivering every day. I made a good clip dealing in and out, my bud with some insight, says to accumulate.
The news are amazing, the future seems very promising. And they're great people, which I like, a lot...you're thoughts...

Talking Stocks 2.0

Do we have CHWY long investors?

I started researching the company. Glanced over the financial basics & visited the website. Then compared the web site to Amazon. Looked up 5 different products we have for our 5 year 60lb puppy.

I don’t get it. Amazon (including Subscribe & Save) had the same products for the same cost if not cheaper cheaper. I didn’t compare against Petsmart, Walmart, or Target.

Am I wrong to look at Chewy as another single niche retail company without physical stores that will ultimately struggle if acquired or do well enough to be acquired. I keep thinking Zappos, Diapers.com, CD-NOW, etc...

What are your thoughts?

This is no different than people chasing HTZ

Zombie companies with high volatility that will burn people sooner or later.

Seeing A LOT of this in the market today - just take a look at the movement on Signal in the last few days. It is insane.

Keeping my eyes steady and away from speculation; added a bit to MELI and PINS pre-market.

If your broker did not get you an allocation already you will have to wait for it to hit the secondary market.

Full blown casino without using basic strategy (as in Black Jack).
This is why I quietly chuckle when people state retail investing does not move the market even a little. Granted, institutional investing is the VAST majority but it's been reported that retail investing usually make up est. 10% of trading in a given year. It's over 20% since April 2020.

With Ameritrade you need to meet requirements. Then register / apply for each interested IPO and pray you get picked.

online brokers like ameritrade, schwab, etrade, fidelity don't do any investment banking. They only have very limited access to IPO shares thru 3rd parties and it is restricted to qualified investors

Space stocks flying (or rocketing I guess?). I think this is a bit overblown on the ARKX news.

Cathie Wood. To be honest I am not crazy about her ETFs. ARKK returned 4% over two years Jan 2018-Jan 2020. ARKK returned 100% Jan 2014-Jan 2020, while AAPL for example returned 400% during that same period. However in 2020 ARKK has returned >350%, mostly because of TSLA.

Now I’ve not done anywhere near the DD that she has, and I’m not saying to not buy the ETF, but evidently not all that she buys is gold given her historical return. I do think she’s gotten a lot of street credit in 2020 for TSLA, but most of her buys to me seem to be stocks that trade a lot on speculation rather than fundamentals, which to me is a risk for what is supposed to be a safer investment (ie an ETF).

Most disruptive positions seem purely speculative & may take years to succeed or fail. Have to give Ark ample credit for Tesla (never bailed) but can they do it repeatedly even in trying times.

Like that old saying, “it’s harder saying in the major leagues getting there”.

Glad to see you stayed it in Ryan!

Sometimes I have to heed my own advice and stand pat; I sold out a few months back and took profit. Blue wave should benefit it even more.

Similar with GRWG. I got in after the election and took most profits this week. Have only a small position remaining.

Bought a 5% position into a company called DynaTrace (stock ticker DT). The balance sheet looks great from what I can see. What do you think @jpeezy14?
