Looking into potentially pursuing my first RM. I’ve owned many Rolex’s, AP’s, a few PP’s, and others. Currently wearing an AP ROO Taupe as my summer daily, with a 16202 as my nicer piece. I have a Polar for travel/vacation use and a few other pieces as well.

I’d considered an Aqua 5167 or 5168 for a bit, but the premium is quite high and not sure if I’d get bored with them over time. The ROO is really a great daily and very robust for me, and was able to get for MSRP. I’m 6’2” and have a flat 7.5” wrist.

As I’ve been looking into RM options, I really like the 67-01 Ti and 30 Ti, maybe the new 30-01 Ti as well, to replace my ROO as casual daily. The 67-02 and 72 would be later pieces to complement my first.

One thing I’ve noticed is WR is typically 30 or 50m. Is that the true WR, or are RM’s not to be used for swimming? It’s not really a dealbreaker, but I like to just wear my casual watch for all activities, which often includes the pool, lake, vacations, etc and the ROO is great for that at 100m.

I have a contact at the RM boutique in Chicago and plan to visit to discuss my options soon.

Any suggestions as to if this might be a good fit for me, as a summer casual watch replacement to the ROO, or if more delicate in general?

Thanks in advance!

#1 RM Chicago is great. Best AD I’ve dealt with of any brand. That’s where I shop as well.

#2 I generally don’t swim with any RMs as most have pretty low water resistance and have push crowns/buttons as opposed to a screw down crown. I might be more careful than most, but I think generally speaking most people don’t swim in them.

We have exact same build, I’m also 6’2 with a 7.5inch wrist and I find RM fits the best of all the brands on my wrist as well. Pateks and to a lesser extent Rolex run small, APs fit well too, but RMs just fit amazing from the bigger 65-01 to the smaller 67-02.

Really appreciate your feedback. I was hesitant to engage with the AD due to not wanting to play games, but I’ll see how it goes. I only plan to buy one to start and maybe another eventually.

Noted on swimming. I can use my Polar if needed.

The fit does look nice due to curved case. My 16202 fits like a glove, and the new 43mm ROO fits well too compared to old 44mm. I thought the 67-01 could be a nice complement to the 16202, similar to a 5167, and then do a sportier one like the 30 etc next.

I’ll visit the AD soon and report back how it went. Thanks again!

I've taken my 030 in the water many times, never any issues. I prefer the older 030 as it is less cluttered and more skeletonized. If your wrist is 7.5", the 72 might be small on your wrist, I found it sized about just right and mine is 6.75", 67 wears even smaller, definitely try it on. If you can have your AP or PP SA introduce you to your RM SA, that will go a long way, unlikely you would get a 030/67/72 as your first RM though.

Great to hear re water use. I don’t plan to go diving, but pool and vacation use would be nice without worry.

Also noted on size. I’ll try the 30 and on the fence from pics which version I like better. Agree 30 looks more open than 30-01, also a few mm slimmer I believe.

I’ve also seen the 11-01 which I like in Ti, is that a good alternative if go grey compared to the smaller 72?

Thanks for all the feedback, I need to go try some on at my grey and the AD Asap!

It won't be original - but I'm re-creating this pic

The 11 is VERY big and will dwarf the 72/030, definitely try it on but you need a bigger wrist to pull it off. Was way too big for my wrist but a great looking watch with many iterations over the years. If you can pull off a 11 I would rather have the split seconds 65 for a similar sized case.

Good to know, will definitely need to try these on in person. They all look relatively similar in pics on here, so need to do a test drive to see what fits best. Appreciate the insight!

I'm curious for insights from the group. So far, I have two RMs: a 65-01 in RGCA and a 67-02 Italy. I love them both and am appreciative of them. I would like to acquire a third in the next year or two. My favorite piece in their catalog is the 35-03, specifically the Dark Blue model (less hyped than the white/black ones).

The Boutique says to be patient and that you can get one in time. However, they haven't sold any of these models in any color to anyone yet, so it could take some time.

My question is, for those of you who either were offered a 35-03 or acquired one from RM directly, what kind of history did you have, or how many pieces did you need to acquire first?

Realistically, I'm probably not a tourbillon buyer, but I could see myself buying 1/2 more pieces while waiting like a 72-01. The Dark Blue 35-03 can be had for about $400k on the secondary market, and retail is about $290k with taxes. I believe a price hike is coming soon that will push that number over $300k.

Thank you very much.
Yes…the 02 dial colors plus the colorful gmt hand really make this dial more interesting/special IMO. That’s just my personal taste. I wore the 03 for awhile as well, that dial is great as well, but I think I’d give a slight edge to the 02. The 03 is a bit bigger case wise, but still a great piece.

Good to know. 01 is definitely more toned down. I like the colors on the 02 and 03, but haven’t tried one on. I did try on the 65-01 and 72-01 recently and love them both. Am torn what to do as like the 65’s look and complications, but the 72 fits so nice being thinner and also has some color on the dial. Plus is more versatile to be worn in more situations. But that 65 is calling my name

Oh man….great dilemma to have. I can say for sure the 65 is a chunk, but I love it! The 72 is svelte but a really sharp RM!
It’s like wearing a Deepsea vs a 5 digit Seadweller. Both great in their own way, and both great in different scenarios.

Exactly, both have their pros/cons. Will need to chew on it a bit. Love my ROO 43 taupe and 65 is similar size. Have a 16202 for under sleeves already so trying to justify the 65 will get plenty of use being thicker
