I have four pairs of John Lobb from BE. Nick uses UPS to ship international. Usually he ships within a week. It's about three days in transit.

All the sizes are UK.

Awesome. How do JL's fit? I am a 12 U.S. But he has a 12 UK that says should size out to 12.5 US. Do they run slightly small or do you have any experience with this?

It depends entirely on the last. For example, I wear a US 9.5E dress shoe (or 10D trainer) and a UK 9E in the 7000 last. My JL monks are UK 8.5E in the 8000 last. Some of their lasts just don't fit me at all, no matter which size I tried.

There is a restocking charge at BE if you want to return, plus return shipping to England. You may want to try some on at a US retailer before ordering from BE.

RTW or ready to wear shoes are generic Lasts where your foot is extremely personal.

Here again you can get a better idea by visiting the thread provided earlier to get more users input but nothing will ever substitute the ability of trying them on in person.

Thank you for the reply. I read the thread and it helped a lot. I think I'm going to go for 11.5 EE. I don't have anyplace local in San Diego that sells them to try them on.

I didn't realize they had a double EE width? Typically John Lobb size conversion is a whole size so that would make it a 12.5 US.

Good luck.

If you go to LA occasionally, there's a store in Costa Mesa. You really need to try on the shoes to ensure you get the right fit.

The width isn't the only issue, your instep, foot volume, and other factors will make a difference.

EDIT: I just noticed you're in LA. No reason not to try on the shoes before you buy. http://www.johnlobb.com/us/store-loc...toreView/id/10

Allen Edmonds is the only dress shoes that I wear. Love the timeless styles and colours. They also come in different widths which is great for my wide feet. Have not bought a pair in about three years, but taking into account I have 20 pairs, I doubt I will ever need another pair of dress shoes.

Welp, as it turns out, I may sell my new Marlows/Darltons. They're a bit tight on me. I compared them to my Marlow tassels and sure enough, they're a tad shorter.

:(

Do any of you guys have the same style shoe but in different colors? I've heard that the rule is that if you want to get a different color that you should also get a different style. What is the rule with that?

WhenI find a shoe that I like, I buy an extra pair, and another pair in a different color. I like Gucci loafers with vibram soles. They stopped making them so I hunted down a couple pair in my size and keep them stored.

GREAT! I'm only asking because I got a pair of double monk straps in black but I like them so much I want to get them in brown/walnut. Didn't know if it was allowed.

No rules, and in fact sometimes it works rather well to do exactly that very thing. But it's also good to have a number of various styles as well. Whether it be Oxford or Blucher, Captoe or Adelaide, Monk or even Boot. The thing is just to make sure whatever you choose that it is appropriate and it the color goes well with whatever you are wearing.

Here are a few examples of the very same model yet different colors and sometimes even different leathers.

The tassels are on the 72 last. The pennies are on the 314 last. I just can't see any variation of the 314 last working for me. Bummer.

Maybe I'll give Alden a shot. The Van and Copley lasts seem pretty forgiving.

That is bummer, but then again Alden makes some pretty fine looking loafers as well.

Good Luck.

Thanks for sharing! I recently got a pair of black double monks but now I want some brown shoes. Wasn't sure if it was a good idea to get them in brown or just go for another design. I have been looking and now the Mcallister wingtip Oxfords from Allen Edmonds in Walnut caught my eyes. So I think I might just do that instead of getting the same shoe in different color. Thanks again!

I was into cordovan when I had to wear suits every day many years ago. The shoe salesman would use two thin metal bars to create a break in the right place, so they would flex with a nice crease.

I wore Alden and Allen Edmonds. Now I wear Gucci loafers with vibram soles because of the comfort, and I wear them with jeans or dress pants. I guess I should take photos of my Gucci collection.

Most of the cordovan shoes that I see now are more casual than anything else. I work in a business casual environment and I specifically look for shoes that can be work with dress trousers, chinos and jeans.

My preference is a blucher over a balmoral, 360 degree storm welt over 270 degree flat welt, brown over black, etc...

In general, I think that cordovan just lends itself better to casual styles.

Those look like great soles for walking. Do they come like that from the factory?

Yes, all factory vibram. Gucci stopped making them this year so I bought several back-up pair. I like comfort in my old age.

Business casual you say?

Walnut strands with some blue laces.

I have a few more pairs of AEs, but these haven't creased much and have broken in to be more comfortable than any other shoes I own.
