Don't know if they have been mentioned but, in the UK I order from the coffee bean shop. Trying some kopi luwak and some Jamaican blue Mountain. Only tried the blue so far, via French press, served black with 2sugars.. delicious

Kopi luwak was £30 for 125g
Blue Mountain was £20 for same.

They also threw in 250g of their blend so I am still paying less for a cup than the burnt crap out of Starbucks!

Luwak is unethical. Pure animal abuse that shouldn't be allowed.

Also, the specialty coffee purists and the whole barista world championships never even mention it, because it is simply bad coffee, sold for high prices.

Of course she would never mention that... I never thought about it, sadly. After a quick search and a few reads, I'm glad it's no longer in the house. Thanks for the awareness.

Indonesia is a country rich with history and culture, they make some incredible coffee which has a pretty unique flavour.

I don't think most people even know about the dark side of Kopi Luwak, I'm not blaming you or your ex for anything

I got a bag as a gift last year, drank it, I wasn't too impressed with the flavour but it wasn't bad. That's when I started reading up on it and decided that I'll never buy a bag myself, I do not want to support that.

On the other hand, the whole meat industry is unethical and nasty, and the vegan stuff is full of palm oil, which wrecks the rainforests with unregulated palm farms. An ethical choice is often not even possible.

i just want to share tetsu kasuya 4:6 method.

this resulted in muted acidity, a lot of chocolate flavor and bold taste

Dapliyan farms, Sagada, mountain province...George Dapliyan 5th place philippine quality competition 2021
medium dark
french press grind

1:18 ratio 20g:360g water
5 pours 45 seconds wait after each pour
50g
144g
216g
288g
360g

this method is one of the best since you can change the acidity, coffee flavor and caffiene level according to your taste.

try it!

Well, you learn something new every day!

Cheers Bas.

To be fair, he’d already lost me at £30 for 125g

Oh sure, and if it's picked from wild civet cat droppings it would be fine. Except they're caged by the masses and are force fed coffee cherries. Living in terrible conditions and terrible health.

Oh, I didn’t take it that way at all! It’s good to be aware and not support those sort of practices, when able.

I try to be intentional where I can. But like you said, it’s nearly impossible. Definitely not a minimalist, but I try to keep a small footprint and not be wasteful.

With the Luwak, it was appealing to say I had it. It was good, but dollar for dollar, I don’t see the value, aside from what I just learned.
Currently, I’ve been into this dark roast single origin Sumatran from a local roaster.

Love this roast. They are overpriced. Sigh I miss the days when they weren't so big.

Sure! Double shot espresso, 2oz Kahlúa, 2oz vodka. Shaken, not stirred!

Pulling two good shots makes all the difference!

On the pictures above, during covid I must have watched 10 videos on "latte art" and tried for weeks - completely stumped and eventually gave up. So nice work!

A good friend of mine brought me some bags from Jamaica. I felt like maybe I was going crazy due to strong peanut butter cup & cardamom notes at the start. Finish reminded me of LaVazza’s Gran Crema.
