Agree. Feb has already 2X my best month from last 6 months in day 10. Feel it needs to consolidate a bit and am in capital preservation mode.

Anyone else in RIOT? Was down 50k yesterday...so I added a crap ton at the low. Let's just say, I'm happy for diamond hands.

Bold move buying that dip, glad it worked for you. I personally do not see value in this business.

Me neither. I see it has a momentum play. And I've taken some profit, and will likely sell my full position soon. Too emotional

Ditto. I’m just holding.

Well, is least the VIX (short & medium) is also down because if that was up, i would be even more confused w/ today’s market (especially being a Friday).

Take a look at 3-5 yrs out when self driving, autonomous taxi, ride sharing, solar power, battery walls, etc. TSLA will deliver in excess of 1 million vehicles annually in 3 years. Their market cap could be 2.5-3X from the 800 billions today. To answer your question, yes it’s fair value today. Buffet said it’s better to buy a great company at a fair price, than buy a fair company at a great price. I’m long TSLA.

Excellent example of a comparatively valued stock with low float and high IV to sell options in for position hedge.

Going to have all of my sold $25 and $30 puts with $40 call options expiring worthless today. Could have pocketed another $3400 if I didn’t buy back half of my $40 sold calls yesterday.. oh well..

Opened a position on SABR today. May be a bit early but they just received a buy rating today from Deutsche bank also, so I will be in this for the long term.

I am going to respectfully suggest you evaluate your investing plan and goals and then do some research on companies that you would like to own.

Good luck!

Think “fair value” is super relative and speculative in itself. Think they are now worth more than the top 10 other auto makers out there put together. So if you think 8/10 cars on the road in 5 years time will be Teslas, then sure they are well priced now. Otherwise I wouldn’t think TSLA is fair value today.

Of course they could divest into other areas and be successful, such as their recent interest in BTC, and justify their lofty valuations.

Not sure if this is what caused the selling of a million shares in a minute just now. Dropped it $8-9

Tesla

Amazon

1999: - "Oh. they are just an online book seller. No profits. Never mind. Moving on"

2019: - Amazon -"Don't they OWN everything?"

Tesla

2021: "Oh, they just make cars. And too few. All they did is sell half a million cars! 80 million cars are sold every year. Pfff - Valuation is too high"

2031: Tesla IS everything from cars, to energy capture and storage, to space travel, to autonomous mobility, to their own insurance, own crypto etc etc

History doesn't repeat itself. But it does rhyme. Some folks however never pick up the lyrics

This guy “@ investors live” / Nathan on Twitter ) & his followers pretty much sold at the same time (813k). It was coordinated. Many stops were triggered and reg traders seems to have gotten scared.

You’re right. They’re also doing some accounting magic to report better numbers than in reality. I tried shorting this company at the start of COVID and got burned due to the fed printer. Looking to short it again

Maybe read my last sentence again. Looking at both sides, there a chance they can be successful diversifying which it seems like what they're starting to do. Not saying that they can't be super successful.

But not every company is as successful as AMZN by following same model, most do fail. Did you invest heavily in AMZN when they were just selling books knowing they would become the behemoth they are today?

MCD owns A plus real estate in every trade area in the USA (and many other places) and has historically paid a good dividend

It’s got issues with its franchisees right now, but it’s McDonalds. It’s not going anywhere. They always have figured it out .

The question is if you believe it’s valuation is correct.

Anyone here have any recommendations for textbooks/learning resources to get a strong fundamental understanding of using python in quantitative finance? Also, any suggestions on best APIs for financial data?

MCD is a good solid investment if you want hold and collect the dividends and should beat inflation every year. Although it definitely isn’t going to suddenly make you big bucks like some of the tech growth stocks, so depends on your strategy.

Because it’s open-source, I’ve always found all the Python info I need on Google/GitHub. A blessing and a curse to have it open, I’ve never liked working with Python - too many cooks in the kitchen sort of, to the point that programming with it is sometimes very non-intuitive. Have you looked into MATLAB? I can’t speak specifically to its use in finance, but for me in engineering it’s always been great for quantitative modelling with outstanding documentation and reference material.

Any thoughts on COTY? They are still down a around 35% and sold off a few cosmetic lines and then picked up two of the Kardashian’s cosmetic lines.

After reading up more on it and actually looking at job board postings for quant. finance positions Python seems to the most ubiquitous programming language in this field. Not really sure why that is- but my guess is just that it's relatively simple and clean to use. Most financial data service APIs (like ycharts) are for python.

The key for me right now finding is a reliable source of data. Personally, I am an intrinsic value investor and use google sheets to create all the tools I use to compare securities and create DCF models. Unfortunately, the sources I scrape HTML data from are not always the most reliable (then again, all of it is free...). I can always dig through 10k or 10qs to really find what I need, but it's a waste of time and would be better if was all automated.

Speaking of financial data, aside from Bloomberg (which really isn't an option for me financially at this point in my life), are there any services out there that people recommend that also don't break the bank?

Check back a few pages, there’s been some discussion about COTY and 7sins provided some great analysis.

no but the best 'platform' i've used for long term holds is M1 finance. Automates my allocations and rebalances.

Tech really took a beating today. One of my worst days in a long time.

A sign of things to come? Or one of our routine cooling off days?

I’m definitely going with latter. There is too much stimulus being pumped for any extended weakness.

Added some on the dips today in some big names.
