Yes, I hear you no rest for the wicked. Also if you are having some friends over you will probably need more than 1 bottle of wine(better make it 3 or 4 bottles)!!!

Not that I recall. And I think I would have if they had done one. Must have been quite something to see.

Is this on a DVD?

Yes, it's on the performance at the Met that I just purchased. Considering that Onegin was portrayed by Dmitri Hvorostovsky, it might have been a freebie for the ladies in the audience. On the DVD, it was a quick flash, but I'm sure the audience got an eyeful.

Editing to add that it made for a very ingenious and effective transition from the duel scene, to Onegin's reentry into society, if I recall.

I better not tell Arleen about that. She loves Hvorostovsky.

OMG! That sounds decadently amazing!!! I absolutely will try that!!! Thanks, Frans!!!!

I remember those days. Four boys and they ALL wanted friends over at the same time. By the time they were teenagers they practically took over the house!

Thanks, Caroline. Interesting read. How can you miss with Fleming and Hvorostovsky and Vargas. Ah, the Met does get the best.

We're going to try to get tickets to thee live Met performances this year and then a few more in HD.

I don't know if you've been to any of the HD performances, but they are wonderful. I especially like the intermissions where the performers and/or the conductor are interviewed. You get a real backstage view as the stage crew is setting up for the next act and someone is standing there being interviewed.

Mornin' Bill. How'd your Tuesday go? Going to be a busy day for me at work today. Students are starting their exams. I feel bad for the kids. It seems like every time there are exams in the spring, it rains every exam day. 90% of the kids are soaking wet when they get to school. What a lousy way to have to sit and write an exam!

Well Nancy, I'd say it's very nice of you to notice the kids condition at all.
School ends here next Tuesday and that begins my short vacation. Can't wait.

I've never been, but am looking forward to seeing an HD performance this season.

Tell me - does singing ability generally trump form and function when casting a performance? One thing that struck me when watching Eugene Onegin was the mezzo-soprano that played Olga (Tatiana's sister). It was actually a little confusing at first, as the part is obviously a teenage girl, but the singer was a woman around the age of 50! It was a little hard to reconcile.

I think that's been the case for a long time. We saw Turandot at Washington Opera a few years ago. Turandot was performed by a woman who weighed in at about 400 lbs. How anyone could fall madly in love with that tub of lard went way beyond stretching the imagination. That performance ruined the opera for me until we saw it again a few weeks ago. This time Angela Gheorghiu sang Turandot and she was not only wonderful as a singer but she looked the part of a beautiful princess.

I do think that many of today's sopranos and mezzos are much better looking physically than in the past. Natalie Dessay, Anna Netrebko, Renee Flemming, to name a few, are all easy on the eye, as well as being great singers. So I think we'll be seeing more of a change in the future, where form takes on a more prominent role. At least I hope that will be the case.

One can only stretch reality so far - before it snaps.

Nice, huh? And what is decadent? Live life Apart from the Cognac, none of the ingredients are overly expensive. Make sure that you don't overdo the livers, they must stay tender.

I can honestly say that Cognac is not something Al and I have ever purchased! Mind you, I have a son who loves it so I'll have to hide it when he visits or I'll never have any for cooking!

My family always used to take chicken livers, dip them in melted butter, then roll them in cracker crumbs and bake them. They were always one of our favourite get-together "snacks". Been years since I've had any!

It needn't be a VSOP or 'Grande Champagne' Cognac and perhaps Brandy will do. I've never tried it in the recepy because I always have a bottle of Cognac on my drinks trolley for those guests that like it. I'm not a lover of Cognac myself. To drink, that is. I prefer Scotch or Bourbon
