I just looked - no jobs here to be seen at first glance. I'll have to see what I can find out about any sort of employment for me to help out with expenses for now.

Seriously! I just don't know how she came up with that!

She said she told Chris that it's bad that he lost his job, but good because she and Max will get to spend more time with him. I wasn't part of that conversation, so I hope he appreciated the second part.

For what it's worth Caroline, that's a very very normal reaction from a child. When things go wrong in any way, they always think it must be something to do with them, regardless of the fact that they have no reason to think that.

How do unemployment benefits work? Do you get a percentage of your income? And for how long?

I've heard that, but never really believed it until now. It sort of shocked me.

Would your local hospital have any kind of chemistry work in your field? I can't remember - was it forensic chemistry?

Not sure. I know there's a maximum that you can apply for, and I think it's for a few months? Thankfully, we just refinanced our house, and set the term for 30 years, just in case. That lower payment will come in handy right now. Sheesh - we closed about 2 weeks ago.

Possibly (I'm analytical) but most of it requires certification as a med tech - the course work I was planning to take starting this fall.

Occasionally I've seen a position for an non-certified person, but that is rare. I just looked a little while ago.

Shock. Anger. Resentment. Apathy. Understanding. Planning. Moving forward. Another chapter in life. The love you guys have for each other is what really matters. Houses, cars, watches; just dumb things in the big picture. Chin up, positive attitude, pull together, and love each other like you have never before. Dig in and solider forward. The bigger the mountain the better the climb.

You know I love you guys.

Thanks, Bubs - that means a lot to me. I'll show your post to hubby once he's had a day or two to process the current situation.

I wish we had a garage - he'd be in it right now! Instead, he is cuddling with the kids and watching "Ice Age" on TV.

Enough of my whining. There is a family we know (Lisa, you know this story). The dad was Max's baseball coach, and he has two little boys. Hit (while walking) by a drunk driver the day after school got out for the summer.

MAJOR head injuries. He just got out of ICU and is now in a rehabilitation center. Hubby went over there today to cut their grass and trim the bushes.

See, it could be worse.

You are so right, Caroline. We don't have to look very far to find someone in a situation that puts our problems in a better perspective. Our buddy in San Antonio tells us of a physican's daughter, from his neighborhood, who was 18 months old, getting hit by a car while playing with her family in her own front yard. The driver was speeding, lost control of the car and ran up onto the lawn. She has severe brain damage... at this point her prognosis is poor.

I don't think this is helping much - bringing more miserable news to cheer you up...? Seems a little backhanded... if I think of any good jokes I'll post 'em!

My wife said she wanted to spice our sex life up, so she tied me to the bed... then she put here clothes on and went out for the evening!

I know my wife is cheating on me... whenever I come home the Parrot yells: "Quick! Out the window"

My wife screams during sex... especially when I walk in on them.

I don't meet the right people, last week I met the Surgeon General... he offered me a cigarette.

At my house the food is so bad we pray AFTER we eat.

It's OK. That poor baby.

The coffeeshop can now get back to its regular programming - silly, bawdy, and hilarious.

Hmm - not sure whether to put that one under silly, bawdy, or hilarious?!

It's always hard when you get laid off from a job. The emotions just swirl around in your head and you wonder what you could of done differently. I was laid off of my last job(in 1990) and you can apply for Unemployment Insurance. I believe it lasts for 6 months or at least it does in Illinois.....
Your children will be going thru the shock as well they will need time and understanding. Please be patient with them.....
You also need time to assimilate and talk over all the adjustments with your spouse.....

Well, the other night I was dining at a very fine restaurant and the dish I ordered was not quite to my liking. I demanded to see the Chef and was escorted into the kitchen where an imbroglio ensued between us, so I socked the cook. To this day when I return to this restaurant they never say here comes that most exceptional gourmand, or here comes that very generous tipper, but sock one cook and then you suddenly become that dirty cook socker.
