What? The graph shows the exact same thing that he claims. It took YEARS for it to return to the original high. Are you a gray dealer?

forget returning to previous highs... Look at the time it spends going down, and the turnaround time... both about 1 to 1.5 years between.

Since we've been in recession for 2 quarters or more, we're already 50% of the way there... by this time next year we'll be in full recovery..

Prices slump by up to 50% for discontinued Rolex watches (Watchpro)

Forget returning to the previous highs? That was his POINT when you claimed the previous dips rebounded quickly. If you believe that there will be a quick recovery, I hope and pray you are right. But your original claim was historically wrong, which was his whole point. Can’t change the rules in the middle of the game.

Interesting article: https://www.wsj.com/articles/rolex-w...sh-11659495619

"...according to Eric Wind, a former senior watch specialist at Christie’s and now an independent watch dealer in Palm Beach, Fla. 'I think a lot of modern dealers are in serious financial distress at the moment.'"

Most dealers im seeing havent dropped prices to the point where pieces are going to fly off the shelf. I think they have dropped them as low as they can go and still have a minimal margin. Until these dealers decide that they arent selling enough each month to survive and decide to take a loss then prices are going to be quite stagnant where they are for the most part. People must still be buying because I havent seen panic selling just yet.

Call up a grey and see what they’ll pay for a watch…most aren’t taking additional inventory unless they have an identified buyer on the other end.

That tells me all I need to hear. They’re holding out with their existing inventory. Don’t think the velocity is there (e.g., not many buying)

I think grays are definitely panicking (or at least very worried). They just aren't losing their minds and selling at fire sale prices - yet. Being businessmen, they are going to drop prices slowly in an attempt to get the highest revenue possible. They'll wait for a period of time, and if the watches don't sell, they'll lower the price again.

I expect we'll see prices continue to step down in this manner over the next few months.

Did a quick search. A Taupe sold for 47k in late June. Definitely lower now

For those that pay attention to watch dealers on Instagram I have noticed a trend this week of many of them starting to sell their personal pieces…..Speaks volumes of where we are headed.

There's a platinum DDII with sapphire and diamond indexes that's been sitting for over a week now.

There's also been two NIB Lange Zeitwerks offered in the span of a week.

Yes, I saw his listing too. According to him, it's his personal collection, 16750 and 6265.

more proof of bordering on broke dealers dumping inventory to cashflow and stay afloat... soon that inventory will be gone and you'll start to see prices rebound a bit..

You’re assuming there’s a buyer on the other side with a bid at yesterday’s prices. If not (which is the case, why else would they need to collectively unload their personal collection?) then there will be significant downward pressure for the foreseeable future.

there is ALWAYS a buyer at the right price, so if he continues to drop it (and likely this will be over the short run) then the price will drop... but don't expect this to happen over months... it will be days, or weeks at most... IF he and others are as desperate for cash as I believe they are.

Alright man… let’s see in a few weeks. I’d wager that there will be many more months of softness. There has literally been no indication that we are at the bottom. New lows being seen on popular refs by the day/week. I just don’t see any end in sight.

I remember when people were saying “just wait until China opens up” and things of that nature. Well look now. We’ve been trending down since February. This run up in prices has been insane. No reason to think that COVID-era prices on luxury goods are here to stay when things revert back to the norm.

two things... China is still effectively closed and experiencing major economic issues.. and markets turn fast.. soft landing, or hard landing on the economy is still a big ?? but when it bottoms out, it will turn on a dime. Always does.

Let's wait and see...

Downturns don’t happen overnight, and neither do economic recoveries. I don’t know what litmus test you’re using for markets turning on a dime, but just look at SPY. It hit mid-155 in 2007 and did not recover to that level until early 2013. Now, every cycle is different, but this does illustrate the point that economic winds don’t change overnight. The momentum is real.

Can you please show me on what reputable metrics the economy has turned on a dime?
