So jealous you have easy access to that area! I miss high quality affordable seafood.

Winding down our day after an interesting trip to Robben Island in South Africa and indulged in a delightful dinner at the Bistro Bouchon in Cape Town. Delicious Steak Tartare and I had their Paella along with accompanied wines and finished off with baked Camembert. Quite the treat....

Looks amazing!

Just a simple dinner at home. Grilled some chicken breasts that were seasoned with our homemade dry rub and then basted with basil butter. Served with broccolini and potato-fennel gratin. The gratin is amazing - recipe below.

My wife surprised me with a scratch made Taco Tuesday and it was outstanding! I guess the flowers I bought her yesterday worked!

We’re having a neighborhood party tonight to get to know more of our neighbors. The menu is pulled pork sliders with homemade BBQ sauce, Mac n Cheese, coleslaw, vegetarian chili, cornbread, a veggie tray, and macarons for dessert.

The pork shoulders have been on the smoker for 19 hours and it should take about 2-3 more hours to go to get up to 203F before I take them off, wrap them in foil and a thick towel, and put them the cooler to stay warm and redistribute the juices. I’ll pull the pork just before the party starts to keep the meat as juicy as possible.

Amazing night. Three of the local winery owners came, as well as a ton of the other locals we invited - probably 80% of the people that were invited showed up and stayed a long time. Met the owners of the horse ranch down the street that stable the Budweiser Clydesdales when they are in town too.

It was an amazing night and everyone loved the pulled pork sliders. The pork shoulders ended up going 22 hours to finish cooking. And we made a homemade BBQ sauce from the Food Network to go with it which was also a hit.

Not pictured, but we also had homemade chili and cornbread, along with macarons for dessert.

Some of the winery owners brought vintage wines as gifts, so we look forward trying those in the near future.

Fresh seafood is one thing I miss living in the country in a land locked state. We’ll be on the gulf coast for NYE and plan to load up the RV freezer with a lot of it to bring home.

We’ll be having some extra nice meals for the next 3 weeks. My birthday is this weekend and Laurie’s is middle of November. It seems we always cooks a little nicer meals in these 3 weeks each year.

Tonight was lamb chops, roasted root veggies, garden fresh salad, and a sold out local Cab Franc.

Getting my chili ready for the chili contest at a football watch party at a local winery in Sunday. It’s from All Recipes and called Purdue Boilermaker Chili, but I make it with some modifications. I use bison instead of beef and add some additional spices. It’s usually a big hit at the parties and easy to make.

Hung out tonight at Restoration Vineyard for wine and Thai food. I got the fall curry with pumpkin and jalapeños. It was delicious.

Thanks. The curry is from the Pali Thai food truck out here and for about 8 months out of the year, they are at a winery down the road about 5 miles every Friday night, so we go a couple of times a month.

I posted a link to the chili recipe above and it is really good and easy to make too.
