I've seen some of those super light Cole Haan shoes with the Nike soles. I'm sure they are comfortable if you are on your feet all day.

Honestly, my Alden 975s are amazingly comfortable. I could walk miles and miles in them without my feet hurting.

Strong endorsement

These Zerogrands are featherweight and the cushioning is excellent. Perfect for trade shows.

My brother is a big fan of Alden shoes. Pretty sure he even has some Alden golf shoes too.

Guys,

Thoughts on this shoe in either brown or whiskey shell cordovan:

I'm thinking about taking a stab at organizing a GMTO.

Personally if I were going for a split toe in cordovan I've always thought Aldens were rather good looking. For some reason and maybe it's the angle those don't appeal to me as much.

John Lobb makes a number of real nice looking monks. I personally chose the Williams II mainly because of the hand sewn stitch.

Any love for Saint Crispin's here??

These are my only pair so far, but I am thinking of another. The construction and finishing is like nothing I've seen thus far.

I've been admiring from afar for a while, but there are no retailers near me to try them on. They are definitely on the to do list though.

I hear that. I just made an informed guess based off my Edward Green sizing. Worked out quite well.

I usually need a roomier last (like a Lobb 7000 or a G&G F width). I haven't been able to guestimate a fit with St. Crispin's comfortably enough to take a chance online.

How many of you are into shoes... (Dress Shoes)?

I'm thinking of doing a suede derby, next. Maybe in this style (900C with a different sole, obvi):

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1476283020.189401.jpg

I've been getting into suede lately and I have a Chukka and a perf captoe boot. I need a derby. StC has quite a few suede options.

I like their suede 647 oxford's. A derby 900C would be cool.

I'm not an oxford dude. I don't own any besides the pair I got married in. Worn once. Haha. My collection is solely derbies.

I prefer oxford's, but there are a few derbies that have caught my fancy.

I've never really seriously considered any of their options in suede but that might be just because of how much I admire the higher gloss finish that they apply. I look forward to seeing the choice that you make.

I don't personally have much in suede but whenever I do I think the next for me my just be a G&G St James in Polo suede.

That is kind of where I am struggling. The finishing of StC is really their hallmark. I do appreciate the construction as well, but I wonder if getting a suede model is kind of a “waste” for lack of a better term. I have an Alden suede boot and an EG suede boot. The quality of the EG suede is better, but I’m happy with the Alden boot for the price and it’s on my preferred last. I could just get an Alden snuff suede derby and be done, but unfortunately it’s on the Barrie last.

I don't have a lot of suede but I have a few. I think for me it's no different whether it be suede or regular calf when making a choice between something like Alden or Crockett & Jones and something like Edward Green, G&G, St Crispins, or John Lobb. Even though you won't get the antiquing as you would with regular calf I find the last, the design, and attention to detail to warrant the extra money. For me it's just a more compelling package overall.

The shoes in the picture seem to be in a smaller size so the proportions of the sole look a bit off.

Here's another pic:

Any better?

The Alden split toe shoes are nice, but I'm not sure if all that stitching is for me. I prefer the cleaner look of this C&J shoe. I know EG also makes a similar model.

A lot better picture, and much better looking shoes. Personally I would stick with the scotch grain however. Cordovan is nice and I have my share, but there are other leathers besides cordovan and scotch grain or even calf would be a great choice in my opinion.

Thanks guys. I already have a pair of scotch grain boots so I'm not sure if I need another pair of scotch grain shoes. I admit, I am a sucker for shell.

While we're still on the topic of suede, I am still on the fence about a pair of suede loafers. I love the idea, but I'm not sure how suede will hold up in the long run compared to calf or cordovan.

Suede is pretty darned durable. Water spots brush out, whereas with calf you need some help. I think you'd be pleased with suede performance over the long haul.

Suede is more durable and easier to care for than most think. Just get yourself some Tarragon Nano-protection or Saphir Invulner and a good non-brass suede brush like the one that Hangerproject sells.
