Bottas is.
Regarding LeClerc, the crash with Max I can understand. It's the first lap and stuff happens. Not pitting with a clearly damaged wing though really deserves a much harsher in-race penalty on safety grounds. The debris took out Lewis's rear view mirror and got caught in Lando's car causing his brakes to overheat. That basically killed Lando's race. |

If he had the choice he would disobey every "Valtteri, it's James" message he ever received. Him obeying team orders is the main thing keeping him in the most desirable seat in F1.
Exactly why he should've been shown the flag and ordered by the stewards to pit. Them not flexing their muscle is their fault. Drivers can't see their front wing and can only go off of messages from their engineer and directions from the stewards. |

Bottas and Hamilton are team players. Remember when Bottas "Loaned" Hamilton the lead and Hamilton gave it back when he could not pass the race leader?
The only time I can remember Hamilton not following team orders was with Nicco when they were competing for driver championship. Team wanted Hamilton to slow down so Nicco could pass and Hamilton declined. Sure Hamilton whines aout pit strategy but most do. Some louder than others. |

Show me a team player and I’ll show you a driver who isn’t good enough to win a WDC.
Would Max have been any less sulky on the radio? Vettel? Schumacher?

Charles LeClerc is one of the biggest whiners on the radio.

Pretty much so. A damn good race imo and who would've expected those results at the start of the race. Mexico put on a great show.

Anybody going to Austin? I'll be there for the race on Sunday. I'm so pumped. I haven't had the chance to see the current cars in person and I've only seen an older gen F1 car on a static display. I'm ready to have my mind blown. I'm sitting in the turn 12 bleachers in the section closest to the turn.

This article written by an anonymous aero engineer currently working for a team on the grid may be of interest to some.

Initially I couldn't see the difference, but the sketch shows a 'wing' on the inside of the front tire housing.. Guess we'll see if the theory plays out..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hk-JKrs0rrc It looks promising, especially the return of ground effects which reduces the reliance of the cars on the bodywork to produce downforce. I have no doubt though that Merc, Ferrari and RB will contrive to drop a giant turd in the regulatory punch-bowl.

The Official Formula One Thread!
I watched that YT and a couple of things jumped out at me.
But first, the new 2021 rules did pass their first approval step yesterday and should be published right away. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/14...les-and-vision The first thing that jumped out at me is the new CAD rule that requires teams to submit full designs to F1 via CAD files before approval. This will lead to a huge security risk and the leading teams may object to pre-publishing their actual designs before autoclaving their aero work. Next thing is the whole idea of improving the ability of the following car to pass the car ahead. While it has been the basic purpose, I’m not sure those teams who are at the pointy end want that Ferrari has been a vocal opponent of some aspects of the new rules. Many may not know this, but Ferrari alone has the right to veto any or all of this even after this approval. This inalienable “right” was supposed to be limited to any plans it deems “not in the best interest of the championship”. However - many believe that is defined as anything not in the best interest of Ferrari winning the manufacturer championship. Team boss Mattia Binotto said it would be a "shame" to have to exercise that right. But he also said that they would decide what to do after the full specs have been published. Like all good engineers, they will find gray areas and exploit them. I do not expect these rule changes to do very much in terms of their goal. However, I have said for a long time to strip these cars of all the barge boards, winglets and make the mains smaller. Give them tunnels again and you should, in theory, see better racing. So glad they seem to be moving in that direction. But even back in the hay days, top teams always will separate themselves from everyone else.

Since the cars will never go back to mechanical grip only.
These new rules (As every batch of rules has been.) will be bent, finessed, or avoided with all the skill the engineers can dream up. The first two years of the new rules will be great for the fans as the teams and F1 sort it out. I wonder how strong the "Ferrari rule" will remain with new ownership. I think at this point Ferrari needs F1 more than F1 needs Ferrari. |

Just got home from Austin. Classic F1 was great. The DFV Cosworth engines are insanely loud. I had to leave the main grandstand where I was sitting to buy ear plugs.
