Tablecloth is the only way I could maintain my sanity, Carolina. And I don't even mind them that much. For everyday, it's even..... gasp.... VINYL! But it's an old, old English pub table (draw-leaf) and I just couldn't bear to have it wrecked. Because I have two little kids, a baby, and a husband. (Husband ruined my last tablecloth when he decided to clean some metal with acetone at the kitchen table and spilled it on the tablecloth. I'm not sure what pure acetone would have done to the wood beneath, so I guess if I'd had to choose, a ruined tablecloth was better than ruined 100 year old finish.)

Yikes - you don't want to know what acetone will do to an antique! Hubby just mentioned that he thinks placemats would be OK, and the table has a slightly distressed finish anyway. I'll need to think on this one...

What shape is the table?

Will you be using it every day?

We'll be using it every night for dinner. It's a new, solid wood table that is VERY heavy, no veneer. The finish is a matte espresso color. We bought it at one of those furniture sample places, so it has a few smudges already.

I'm just so used to our other table, which wears like iron. I'm wondering if placemats would do the job. The problem is that the dining area is part of our family room, so I was hoping to make the table look a little nicer with a centerpiece or some such decoration. Maybe I can just throw on a vinyl cloth for dinner only!

Also, my children were literally in tears this morning. We got a bit of snow, and now it's just rain and slush. All the area schools are closed or delayed, but for some reason the parochial school system they attend decided to keep classes as scheduled.

Major disappointment for them! We only get snow once a year or so - they wanted to stay home and play!

Carolina, them dang private schools don't like to close! Ours stays open no matter what, too. My suspicion is that the public schools are concerned about liability/runnng the buses. Since we don't get bus service, well, there you go....

More later - baby wiggling....

All I know is to be there for her... give her lots of love and support and a listening ear. Is she currently under medical care? She might feel better with some medication.

I was wondering what shape is was because maybe you could put runners on it where the plates would be? If it's round or square, you could criss-cross two of them, like an X. If it's rectangular, run them parallel.

Now, I wonder if they make vinyl runners!??

Did you visit the thread about favorite/least favorite concerts? I bet you have something to contribute there! Found out our buddy Lisa (watchlady) is friends with The Great One - Todd Rundgren.

Is she at home? How was she injured, if you don't mind my asking? I know you had said she attempted suicide; what did she do? Yikes.

Goodness - I didn't realise that the suicide attempt and the car accident were one and the same. It sounds like she was going to extremes to get that jerk's attention??

Ohhhh - shape, I get it! It's a 36x72 rectangle. I was going to put one runner in the middle, but maybe 2 parallel would be cool. Good idea!
