How can you take a road trip to China from here?

Maybe a slow boat?

I hear you, Raf. Our son currently lives in Manhattan, which is 4 hour drive. My daughter lives in Dallas, which is a day's plane ride. Usually we get to see her once a year when we go there for her birthday. This year, she and her husband are coming East for a family function. So we'll get to spend some time with them then in addition to our trip to Dallas.

As it turns out, my son and his wife have settled on a place to rent for the next couple of years while they get the lay of the land before buying; the place they're renting is 5 minutes from us.

Arleen and I lead very busy lives so it's unlikely we'll be taken advantage of too much. We'll probably get her on Friday afternoons and evenings, which means we're likely to have Friday night family dinners more often. Since we don't go out on Friday nights, that won't be a problem.

The irony is that we're keeping our New York apartment and Arleen is already planning that we'll go there maybe once a month. That's a bit much, but we will no doubt continue our New York excursions to theater, opera, and meet-ups with friends we have there.

Colin, thanks for the hosta photos. They're lovely. I like the two types of leaves in the first pic - variegated and solid. Is that one plant? Does it always grow that way? I ask because I had stripey-leaved hostas that were mangled by our big spring hail storm, and when the leaves started to grow back in they were solid green. However, the following spring they returned to their normal stripey-coloration. Weird!

Lisa, it's one plant. The solid colour has only appeared this year.

I have to share with you guys - I've been wasting my afternoon (when I should be doing laundry) watching YouTube videos of Adele - her "Rolling in the Deep" is being played everywhere around here. I wanted to check out some of her other stuff... so glad I did. Now this is real talent - a voice that brings me to tears - and she writes a lot of her own songs.

Well, maybe I can try to answer with another question: Where can I be an asset and not a liability?

The Russians Are Coming

...actually, they've arrived. Here are my Siberian irises, such a stunning variety. The color is hard to capture, but this is close--there's quite a lot of blue to the purple.

She has yet to receive it. It had only a few stops to go, but I don't know its status now.

These irises are easy to dig up, Lisa, so I'll leave a batch on your porch once they're out of bloom stage. :)

Glad you're safe and sound with this terrible weather. Lots of that out here, too. Tonight there was a big whup of severe storms that turned the skies extremely scary, although we aren't usually tornado prone. But it's been like this for weeks now.

We have strawberries setting fruit and need intense heat and sunshine right now in order to turn them sweet.

How's it shaking out your way, everyone?

That is crazy, it's like years now, and it should just be sent directly to her. I'd like to know who has it and why it hasn't been forwarded on in a timely manner.

Yes. It is a treasure.

Steve, have you communicated with Jimbits about it? He might have an update.
