Wow....the last couple pages of this thread have been interesting to say the least. I'm not part of the "book" thing so I can't comment on that. However, it would be nice if things could lighten up a little.
Take a deep breath, don't let stress affect you, watch your blood pressure, and enjoy your family..... Other than my beautiful wife (and sometimes my younger children) this is the first thing see when I wake up in the morning.

You don't know how close I was to hauling doughnuts in today, because people are always happy with doughnuts... so that's great news. Next week, you're on!

.... have you ever commented on a post, and then found that subsequent posts pretty much took the thread in a completely different direction, so that your comment no longer had any relevance? That's what I just did!

Lisa, that's usually what I do, since I'm often late for the party.

What a beautiful girl! Hello there.:)
Yesterday was Wild Kingdom out here. It started with discovering a lamb who had popped out of the fence. That took very little to resolve. But late in the afternoon the snapping turtle who wanders into the property once a year showed up on its trek to the wetland, but very strangely, he/she landed right up at the house, just footsteps from the kitchen. It lumbered its way into my perennials. Good thing we're used to dealing with snappers. |

Maybe your snapping friend is waiting patiently for you to throw him a chicken leg, J. I do hope lamby is safely away from his jaws! |

I saw that some were talking flowers up in here.
Can someone explain why my wife was going crazy over this? She said its very good luck and illegal to hurt these? It's just something that popped up in our yard down the Cape near the woods. |

Bruno, I have no idea what that flower is. It looks like an orchid... but those don't grow in climates with cold winters.
Maybe some kind of exotic iris? Either way, I can understand her excitement! If Leo (Lion) checks in soon, he'll probably know. |

She says its called a "Lady Slipper". We have company for the weekend and both her friend and my wife are telling me its a $10,000 fine for disturbing one of these flowers. If this is true I owe my wife $100 because we have a bet. I say shes bonkers.

Bruno, it may be a Lady Slipper. Look up some images of it and see for sure. I was going to guess it was some kind of Pitcher Plant from the images I had googled.

This was taken from Photobucket when I did a search for Lady Slipper. I think your wife and friend are correct! |

Thanks. I did actually find that it's against Massachusetts law to disturb these so I owe my wife the money.

I grew up in a podunk town in Massachusetts with nothing but woods behind my house. We had those Lady Slippers growing wild in the woods back there. As a child I was told to leave them alone as it was illegal to pick them.

You are correct that flower is a Lady Slipper Orchid and it usually is illegal to tamper with them in most states!!!
