I'm doing what Uncle Sam told me to do, which in my case is being an admin weenie. Pretty boring, eh?
Or the other answer to your question could be "getting shot at". We get a lot of indirect fire these days.

No no - not boring. So you're military, then? So thankful that you are there in the name of freedom. Would love to hear more! |

Cool - it's so nice to have some more women active at TRF!
Leo - to answer your questions from the other thread - the hot, dry summer was really tough on my garden... but even so, all but one of the new climbing roses survived. And the one that died grew and bloomed, but then one by one the canes died and now it's all brown and dry. I don't know if it was the location - too much competition from the nearby magnolia tree - or lack of water (but I thought I was giving it plenty). But it was an extra plant, anyhow - maybe I'll try putting something else there. The girls have mixed feelings about starting school - don't like the work, but love being back with their friends. Phoebe's doing volleyball again this year and their first game is Saturday. June is thrilled to be in Brownies again - she was the #2 top seller of cookies last year. Woo-hoo - and she has a stuffed kangaroo to show for it. Violet really wants to go to school, and I'm sort of regretting not starting her this year. Too late now, but I suppose she'll do kindergarten next fall. Meanwhile, I'll try and work with her at home to learn her letters and such. Now that it's cooled off some outdoors, time to clean up the flowerbeds. I'll dig up and overwinter the elephant ear and caladium bulbs in the basement like I did last year - it was a successful endeavor and the elephant ears got HUGE this year. I might trot outside and get some pics. |

Mine is at our jeweler's - I'm getting the hands re-lumed. I don't remember where I left off posting details, but bottom line is that the dial was replaced at some point but the hands are probably the original and are tritium. I wanted lume more than I wanted hands that were appropriate to the dial, so the dead tritium is being replaced with new lume. I hope to have the watch back in the next day or so and I'll try to get some pics showing the glow. |

OK, that sounds like a good plan for yours. Last I'd seen you were thinking of returning it because the dial had been changed out. I never thought about getting the hands relumed, but it seems like a good idea. Mine have no lume left at all. But my dial is a non-lume, so it's not as annoying to have the hands dark. Can't wait to see pics of yours.

The morning sun, wind and heat has tattered the leaves - but you can still get an idea of the huge-iosity. This gigantic mess started out as a single seed Phoebe brought home from class in a styrofoam cup and some potting soil last spring. It's a climbing hyacinth, or a hyacinth vine, or something like that. I guess we'll save a few of the seeds from the pods and plant a few next spring - where there's lots of room. I did see a hummingbird sipping from the blooms the other day. Caladiums still look pretty good, though they'll soon start to fade.... How cool is this little guy? He was totally engrossed in the butterfly bush flower - he even let Violet pet him. Oh - last but not least - Phoebe started these lemon seeds from a grocery store lemon. After a year, they're looking pretty good. |

The feedback seems to be good, except for one person who just had to make it known that he doesn't like it, and without even answering the question I posted. I'm hoping a couple more folks chime in, hopefully with some info about the dial.

Fun on the famr
Ande, Lisa, et al., hello. I haven't checked the thread for a while and was happy to see these cool new photos. Lisa, your grounds look amazing (and the little doll in there does too), and Ande, thanks for sharing a glimpse of your world. Stay safe, girl!
Just a couple of randomly odd pix from my special territory, here in the heartland. Couple days ago I happened upon a little tableau at the nearby gas station. I believe this is for sale, for target practice. Ok then! And then today, the Goodyear blimp festively steamed by the property, as it often does on game days during football season. Always is weird, no matter how many times you see it! Cheers. |

Morning everyone, been away at a coin show for four days and just now am catching up. Lisa, I'm glad the girls are enjoying some parts of school and could you possibly enroll Miss V in a pre-school program? Your garden pictures are always a lot of fun to see so let's see some more.....please!!!
Andelain, please stay safe and sane and come home soon...now which watch did you post pictures of??? chicfarmer1, whereabouts in the Midwest do you live? I live in the south suburbs of Chicago and am less than 10 minutes from the country!!!

Hiya Leo,
Coin show...oh that is fun. Ugggh, just saw that my last post had a typo in the heading of it. Hate that. I'm in Ohio, somewhere in the flight path between GoodyearLand (Akron) and the southern area. Do love Chicago. One of my favorite cities. And...directly outside a kitchen window now is a black and yellow garden spider who's been literally hanging around for a week. Today she (he?) captured a grasshopper. Watching the drama at very close range! (pic taken through window glass) |

chicfarmer1, I do love living so close to Chicago because I have the benefits of being in wide open spaces and when I want to...I can go into the city for all the amenities that a large city offers. I love to garden so being in the suburbs gives me the land to tinker with and grow Mother Nature's flowers. And for a Co-op I have an end unit with extensive garden borders and beds. Btw that is a cool looking spider and it looks like you might live in the country as well???

It's not crystal clear, but that spider is actually holding its captive grasshopper. Yum!
Yes, in the country. As country as it gets, but it's also not far from a major city. Elsewhere on this thread I've posted some pics. I also love gardens and gardening, although the highlight here is the veggie garden. |

Andelain - as someone who got out of the service not too long ago (last summer, actually), thanks for your service and hang in there! As I'm sure you're aware, life is a little better on the outside, but damn Uncle Sam hooks us up with some benefits!
What are your plans post-military?
