Thanks guys, the Montblanc 149 is basically the flag ship model in the Montblanc range. The display box is really very large and is quite suitable for desk display. The box is said by Montblanc on their website to be high lacquer finished timber.
The finish really is beautiful, and as stated piano case like. It therefore picks up fingerprints and dust with consumate ease. I suppose the "Putman" as it is known it might possibly be described as a vintage model now since it was only available for a very short time in 2005. At least one could call it a 'limited edition' with only 1480 pieces made. Mine as the second photograph of this thread shows is number 1961 of 4180. Not 1961 the year. Sorry for the confusion.
