I f#$^ing love starting a conversation with strangers, especially about watches. Why the F#$% not??? It's just a conversation. It could be as short as "nice watch! Thanks", or a 20 minute story.

I don't get asked about my watches much. It's an extravagance I'm a little sheepish about, except here. :)

The truth is that I don't call unnecessary attention to my watch, either. I like the Explorer in no small measure because as the waitress said, "It's so plain."

I also don't take my watch off for just anyone. It just so happens that I frequent this establishment and know the staff quite well, trust them, and tip them well for their services. I eat there on on average once per month.

When Sherri suggested in jest that I should get a Rolex, instead of telling her that I had one, I let her look for herself, just for fun.

In some quarters, it's called jovial discourse. You should try it sometimes. You might make a friend.
That's ok. I do not like those quarters anyway.

I always compliment people on their fine timepieces. Conversation will continue with their response, some people are happy to chat others are not. It makes me happy when someone compliments mine.

I got a "Nice Watch" Monday from the guy working, might be the owner about 25 years old, at a pizza place I tried for the first time. I said "Thanks", he said he really doesn't wear watches, but he could see wearing one like that.

So I held it up a bit so he could get a better look and said the style has been out for a couple years, and I'm happy with it, then we went back to the business at hand, PIZZA!

No mention of Rolex and I'm not sure if he knew or cared. I was wearing the SS GMT IIc.
