great pictures guys. I thought I was an AV nut till I saw your pictures. My humble JVC X30 3D projector beaming on to a 106" screen looks a bit sad now. Still it looks great and the sound is fair too - Yamaha DSP Z7 through a monitor audio RS collection and velodyne sub.
funny how a lot of us like the "same" toys - watches, cars, home cinema.....

I guess you could say I like Superman
As much as the man and the mythos, I love the fact that he had a place to get the hell away from everything (The Fortress of Solitude), and he USED it! I once asked Jerry Seinfeld why he liked Superman so much. I was only about 21 (I'm 32 now) but it made a pretty solid impression. He answered, "Well, I like the colors for one. But the other thing that I really love about Superman is that with all his powers and ablilities... he STILL had woman problems" While I do love my wife, and thank goodness we've not had kids or I'd really be pressed to do anything like this, but I think every man needs a spot he can go and have time to himself and plan his next course of action or recharge his batteries. Therefore, I built my own version of the Fortress.

I'd be sad that I didn't have kids with a set up like that. Kids are the only reason for anything IMHO. If/when you have them you'll see! Just my honest opinion. We all got opinions... |

I let my friend's kids have a field day in here when they come... supervised of course. But I got snipped years ago. We've got pups, and we're busy. I'd honestly feel kinda ripped off if I'd had a kid, and I'd feel like I was ripping them off too if I didn't want one to begin with. Plus, there are some genetic health issues on both of our sides that we somehow dodged, but there was no point in tempting fate. We haven't completely ruled out adoption. Just gotta see some more of the world first and make sure we're willing and ready. I don't take the responsibility of child-rearing as lightly as many parents I've seen in my neck of the woods, unfortunately.

Taking iPhone 5 pics in the dark does not look so great unfortunately. My Canon 7D pics on the 1st page were much clearer. |

Curved variable side masking screen. I love watching 2.35:1 movies, but end up sacrificing the size on 16:9 films to optimize the size of 2.35:1. Either way they look great using the Sim2 projector (and anamorphic lens when 2.35:1 is engaged).

Thank you, kindly! This was my first go at it and the first time of any project this size is full of trial and error. I've of course got things that I'd do differently, but overall I'm happy with my first go at it. I'll definitely be going with a curved screen next time. I was originally going to go with a 92" screen but ProjectorPeople.com had some good online resources and real people on the phone who worked me up to a 120", which I'm very glad they did.

And you are 100% correct, sir. I didn't do the room justice taking iPhone pics but went ahead and put them up anyway.

Here are some photos of my theater. I was able to work with the home-builder and an HT installation company to put it together. The room design was all me, contractor built, HT people installed and tuned the electronics.
120" wide 2.35:1 Screen Excellence Enlightor 4K Epson 9300UB projector JTR Triple 8-HT x3 LCR's and Single 8-HTLP x4 surrounds Seaton Submersive x2 subwoofers Anthem MRX 700 AVR Elan g! and Lutron lighting and remote control Fortress seating That's all the fun stuff, but the meat of the project was the soundproofing and some modest acoustic treatments. Here are some photos, overexposed to show some details, the room is dimmer in person, and pitch black with a floating image when we watch movies. Speakers and subs are all behind the acoustically transparent screen or hidden in the columns behind acoustically transparent fabric. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] |
