Oh, but it is under rolex warranty and comes with a crapload of modern (and easily attainable) rolex paperwork from its most recent service. Guess that means it's worth more than double its market value......

This thread is a hoot! Keep them rolling!

Unfortunately I have nothing to contribute - my AD is a complete WIS and my wife has advised me not to talk watches with non-WIS's.

Exactly Jack just like most of the car industry today they use the same parts and mostly the floor-pan just a different body and name badge.Just like Rolex in many ways Rolex base movement is the cal 3135.All the mens line up are clones of it except the chronographs, they just add or take away complications like say the date.Or add date and day or add the the different time zone function complication. Then just a few different bodies either in S.steel, mixed metals, precious metal, and precious metals with precious stones.Yes they all share basically the same engine, while today a few of the most collectible Rolex today don't even have a Rolex made movement inside.

Well I think mine was funny, at one of my AD the manager came out to see me and show me some rolexs mainly the GMTIIc and proceeded to tell me I could layby it if I gave a 20% deposit (their usall policy is 50% and 4 weeks to pay the remainder) and I could have 3 months to pay the remainder. When I said I had to discuss it with the ball and chain he said and I quote "well don't wait to long, we have it now but you see these(pointing to the cyclops) models with the bubbles are rare they don't make many" I just smiled and said I would be back, but haven't :p it also suck that that's one of only two AD here in Perth :p

An estate jeweller here in Toronto who is known for having a large selection of Rolex (mainly used and some new) tried to sell me a USED Oyster Perpetual No date (fluted bezel) for $5,000.

I told him that was way to high as I could get a BNIB Datejust with fluted bezel for less then that. He laughed and I walked out.

This weekend I'll be walking back in to prove it

Maybe he will take me seriously now and give me great deals on used Rolex's

That's currently what I am going through with my local AD. I went in to check out a GMTIIc as I had never tried one on. I am not looking to purchase for at least two months, but I keep hearing how "rare" the GMTIIc's are...LOL

While looking at some watches at a local preowned watch shop, the sales person says " I've got a Rolex that I gaurantee you that you've never seen before. It's so rare I don't keep it in the case". He goes into the back and comes back out holding a fairly late model polar dial Explorer II. I was like umm, okay?

A watch 'collector': Yours is obviously a fake, ALL Rolex watches have green backs with the crown and model. I tried to explain that was a sticker....but he told me I was wrong and did not know about Rolex.

that @$$#*!& is very well known for wanting to pay half of market value for anything he buys and to charge double market value for anything he sells. Plus it seems to be firm store policy to be rude, arrogant, ignorant and dismissive. Stay far, far away.

Stopped by to pick up my step-daughter from work wearing my 16610- her boss (wealthy gentleman) says to me "Hey, is that an Invicta?" I said "No, it's a Rolex". He said "I bet you wish it was an Invicta". What can one say but smile and walk away...

Different interior, different prestige, different price tag, different trim levels.

BTW, Audi has unique engines and unique drivetrain that are not used in other VW Group models. E.g. you can say the A1 is based on the Polo/Fabia, but the A6 and A8 has no counterpart in Skoda and Seat.

Actually, with the exception of the badge and some of the trim, the vw phaeton is an exact clone of your car. Same engine, gearbox, brake system, electric componants, etc etc. Think mercury sable and ford Taurus...

That may have been true for the old A8, but the new A8 has no VW counterpart (yet). BTW, platform-wise the Phaeton isn't based on the old A8, but a VW platform shared with Bentley Continental.

You're right fiery, and there are other differences as well including suspension components and transfer case. However in context of this discussion, the comparison is relevant IMO. The Tudor and rolex aren't complete clones either, but they do share a lot. The a8 driver drives an Audi, not a vw, and not a bentley. I say this without passing judgement on any three of those cars, but in the same tone a rolex is a rolex...etc etc.
