Oh my - yet another pointless thread.......security will let you know if you can wear your watch or not. I took forty flights last year alone. Depending on what airport and what country - you have to remove everything metal (plates in your skull aside) from your person and walk through the metal detector and or these new body scanners.. If you make a fuss about your expensive watch - they will offer you a 'most special plastic bowl' to place it in while you walk through without it on.

You do not argue with these people. If you do: #1. You are an idiot moving to: #2. a one on one with FBI or CIA agents on site who will escort you in to a room with no windows and question you. Good luck in making your flight. All because of thinking you might loose your watch? (yes I read those I lost my watch in security line threads elsewhere) - but here is the bottom line. Place your watch in a zippered or velcro pocket going through xray and walk through which ever scanner they have installed at the airport location without incident and breeze through. One more thing - I have NEVER passed through any airport detector in the last 7 years which did not pick up my Rolex. My Breitling Aerospace in Titanium makes it through occasionally - but not always. Whew - hoping that ends this thread...

Ditto to the nth degree. Being an American flying domestic is one thing but the times I have gone thru' security checkpoints in London, Paris, Rome, Copenhagen, Narita, Icheon (South Korea), Singapore, and Hong Kong; unless you are willing to have a "one on one" with those authorities, I found it best to store my watch (and other metal triggering items) in my carry-on. Since taking this extra step, I have walked through their metal detectors without an issue. No hand wand, no gropping, no touching my watch, no nothing.

I've never taken any of my watches off, and none has ever set off the alarm.

Maybe I should test the waters and keep it on the next time I go through LHR. Knowing my luck, it will trigger the alarm bells and I will be asked to step aside and bend over for a physical pat down.

Seriously, I should/will try it and it may save me a step. But old habits die hard.

I took a flight yesterday and went through one of those new full body scan. Needless to say, leaving a watch on is no longer an option, regardless of size, material etc. Get used to it.

I guess I will keep my old habit .... it is 100% predicable that the metal detector or body scan won't trigger a secondary search. But in life there is no guarantee that one won't be patted down for another reason.

As a constant traveler I have never set the alarm off in security (DD,DJ,DSSD,TANK, MONSTER)..I do take precautions like:

Cellphones out
gum wrappers out
rings out
loose change out
belt out

If the buzzer goes off, the TSA always assumes its the watch, so clean yourself of all metals and you should be fine.

As many have said, I always put it inside a zippered pocket of my jacket before getting in line along with the rest of my items.
