Laings can be very hit or miss depending on who you get. I had a fall out with them after a few years of being a loyal customer.

Now go elsewhere due to their "take or leave it" attitude and unwillingness to be helpful in certain circumstances.

I must add, this is just my opinion, and can vary hugely depending on who you get.

Note:
The onus is on you to provide indisputable proof that you bought a Brand New In Box Unworn 116610LN for the sum of £3,800.00 from an AD purely by the process of negotiation.

(To clarify further: You cannot have benefitted from any kind of staff/family/friend discount).

A hand-written nor even typed letter on an AD's letterhead will not be accepted as evidence.

right - lets say the current MSRP for 116610LN is £4970 (got that from watch finder website, they are usually up to date quoting MSRPs)....

then you used a Signet sharholder 10% discount card - which will take it to £4473.

then a 15% VAT refund because you didnt buy it on the airside - which will take it to £3802.05...

So - what negotiation? everyone with a shareholder discount card and a non-EU citizen can get that kind of discount..

this thread is all about how UK memberes/buyers can get a maximum discount by using various negotiation skills....

therefore... guess what, Dan comes out the winner.

(thank me later Dan )

i was quite disappointed that you didnt quote the £3353 price you paid - because that'd be the average staff price for buying a Rolex from their place of employment (in case you are wondering, its about 30% staff discount, one purchase per year)

Bottom line is that I was unable to achieve any discount at all in any of Glasgow's major jewellers. Even if I had walked in with a suitcase of cash I was told that no discount on this watch was on offer, end of story. Glad some others were able to get some mind-blowing deals which border on loss leading from the retailer and I don't reckon they would have to do that on Rolex watches........

I paid for both my watches in instalments prior to collection.

The last (automated/till) receipt for my ceramic Sub' shows ..... from recollection..... that I paid about £500.

It doesn't mean that's what the watch cost me.

So if that's the 'evidence' you have (which I take to be a hand-written receipt?) then I propose that you put down a deposit beforehand & merely paid a balance of £3,800.

A 23-odd % discount is simply unobtainable on a BNIB 116610 from a UK AD & you'll not convince me otherwise.

So I'm still up for the "my £500 against your cSub"......
& as I've a vested interest I'll even bow to 'The Forums' judgement.

(maybe we could post a poll or something once you've posted your evidence?)

Let me know when you've sent your watch & I'll transfer the £500 to Stu as soon as he has your watch in hand.

P.S. Assuming of course that it's genuine can you send the boxes & papers too.......??
(I'll get more for it when I list it on ebay that way....)

As we are a forum that exists to help each other I would be grateful if J5JTS would let us into his sectrets. The AD im sure would love all of the new business that would come his way.

I decided to purchase elsewhere with my cash...twice...and will purchase elsewhere in the future. We have an excellent motorway (freeway) system and you can be almost anywhere in a few hours and so there is a great choice of ADs within easy reach if you don't mind going for a nice drive.

So lets get this right, you want me to transfer my watch including all the papers and receipts to an unknown person and even then you wont believe that I paid £3800 for my sub c .........get a life, talk is cheap, you will make up any excuse not to pay your bet, as you say "you'll not convince me otherwise".......I buy a fair few rolex's per year from the same AD and sell them onto other watch dealers, why would I give out the details of the AD who I deal with to compromise the AD and my relationship with them ,I have never paid in instalments for anything in my life.......thats why you will never get a discount!!
I will let you carry on paying over the odds whilst I enjoy my 23% discount.......and thats on steel watches.....its 30% off gold / TT

You offered the bet: I simply accepted it.

Furthermore & as stated; no you wouldn't convince me but my money'll be there as soon as you put your watch where your mouth is & I'll stand by the results of a members-poll as to wether your evidence is sufficient.

In fact.... as soon as you agree to send your watch I'll transfer the £500 to Stu's account.

By the way I am incredibly impressed that you've never paid for anything in instalments in your life: that obviously makes you an authority on watches & an even better negotiator.

Then again it might just make you a spoilt prick of a troll that's full of sh!t and beginning to get right on my tits.

As for your "talk is cheap", "get a life" comments you're obviously one of those 'cyber-tough guys' & can bait me all you like...... but you're simply not worth getting banned over.

So I'm just going to politely & respectfully suggest the following:

I'll send arttay10/Stu £500.

You send arttay10/Stu your watch.

You then post evidence in support of your £3,800 purchase price on the forum along with a simple poll.

If the members believe that your evidence is sufficient Stu gives you my £500.

If your evidence is found t be lacking Stu sends me your 116610.

If that's not agreeable to you please tell me how you suggest we proceed.

Thankyou.

Ah ha. That was the reason why you got 23% off. So your negotiating skill is pretty crap consider the average mark up is about 40%.
If quoting all these figure makes you think you are better than everyone else, then you are wrong. You are just simply a middle man who doesn't pay for the watch at the end of the day. You buy low and sell high. What kind of watch ownership is that.

To make it worse - you are obviously not a man of his/your words.

How else you are going to prove how much you have actually paid for the watch without quoting the ADs name and relevant info required....?!?
Oh thats right, you can talk the talk, but can't walk the walk.
