Hey Scar,

Google up some reviews on the Opus X. You will find they are very accurate in describing the flavor. Better yet buy one, if you can find anyone who has them, and make your own determination. They are rare and expensive. Expect to pay about $35.00 a stick.

If you don't mind my asking, what are you paying for the 8-5-8's where you live?

At one time they were a bargain at around $3.00 or so, but have almost doubled around here.

At the local tobacconist they're $6.25. At the larger Party Source they're $4.95 plus my 10% discount. Under $5 is a huge bargain for a great smoke.

Depending on size I have seen them at local shops for anywhere from $15 to $28. I haven't seen them much above $30. For the shops that do carry them the owners have told me that they are an alloted item like any other high-demand product. The shops I frequent have not attempted to overprice them. Having said that, that's probably why I frequent those shops

I was just wondering because many of the Cuban cigars I smoke cost less than or about the same. But, as cigar smokers we all know what one person likes may not be what another likes. Hmmm, maybe today is the day I try an Opus. Thanks for the suggestion

Thanks Dan. I need a new cutter. When I was about to pull the trigger on a Xikar Xi1 I gave the Xikar multi-tool a look. Then, when I was about to buy the Multi-tool online I saw your cutter. Ahhh, the major decisions in my life!

I have an early Xicar that has lasted me about 10 years. I take it apart and sharpen it myself.

I recently picked up a Palió which is the top rated cutter these days. It is outstanding.

FWIW, the only Fuente I smoke is the Añejo. It is an Opus X in a Maduro wrapper that has been aged 5 years in cognac barrels. They are like hens teeth compared to Opus X. We have shelves of those at the shop, but Añejo only around Christmas. The only place you can buy them year round is the Fuente place in Caesars.

A very effective and modestly priced model would be the Perfect Cutter by Cuban Crafters. The equivalent of a Zippo, 100% return for any reason and a new will be shipped to you. Works "perfectly" and tough to beat at $15.00.

The Laguiole was a generous gift from Dave [davethehal] an ex cigar smoker on the forum.

I once knew but forgot.

My wife gave them to me as a bd present. they are sliding door humidors..and have 3 different stages of controlled humidity.

It is very apparent from your photos that cigars are indeed your hobby. You said that you have many humidors around your living room, so do you prefer storing your cigars in various humidors as opposed to storing them in one large cabinet style humidor? The "coolidor" has been gaining popularity amongst cigar smokers and I was wondering if this was something you thought of. Perhaps humidor collecting is part of the hobby? For those who are not familiar with a coolidor it is a cooler (Igloo and Coleman are two brands) outfitted with a humidification system used to store cigars. It is, more or less, an inexpensive way to store a large quantity of cigars.

I will check the manufacturer for you...I hope I don't forget to do it..if I do, remind me..I'm traveling now.

As for the humidors..I keep all my cigars in my living room, and its rather hard to explain my wife what is a cooler doing in the living room

I do however, like the different humidor boxes I have, not because of the way they look, BUT above all, their quality.

Cigars are, as you know, very sensitive to humidity and temperature, BUT also to smells..

A good cigar humidor, MUST be lined inside with Cedar wood, or the box even made with Cedar..mine are normally all Cedar boxes with either natural finishes on the outside, OR veneers..but inside they must be cedar.

Cedar is the only wood that will help maintain humidity and temperature, and is the only one that will not give out smell nor absorb it..therefore, cigars inside a cedar humidor, will not gain or lose aromas, except to each other, whch I strongly encourage and allow, hence you seeing many different brands mixed in the same box..it's like a body odor share thing!!

Because I do have some real collectible cigars they need to be preserved properly, not just with the right humidity.

A plastic cooler provides only temperature and humidity..and can interfere with the cigar's aromas and smells.

I do have a lot of fun, sometimes, just smelling them..instead of smoking..

Also..I don't clean them..UNLESS they get really dirty.

The white spores you see in some of my photos, is a sort of mildew that grows in them, result of the oils in the leafs traveling to the surface, which is a good sign the cigars have the right moisture...if they were to be kept in a tight plastic cover box, the cigars can become over humid and damage them, as the plastic, unlike wood does not "breathe"

All I can say is bravo! I could not add a thing to what you have written. Just a side note, if one were to use a "coolidor," then I would recommend keeping the cigars in the cedar boxes in which they came. If they are singles then utilize empty boxes. I still agree with your method of high quality humidors. For me, there is more to just smoking the cigars. I like the accessories and the collecting of fine cigars.
