Surprised nobody has mentioned "Coke" and "Pepsi" yet. Further frivolous fodder...

What about the bracelets oyster & jubilee, any names? They seem to get little affection considering their function. If i were to add one to my 'millie' i would buy the jubilee bracelet (possibly on the explorer 114270) then i'd have the different bracelet and watch to wear, which would make it completely different feel and look. |

My point of view is: The people that call a Rolex a "Rollie" are the same people that call California "Calli".

I don't mind pepsi and coke as the're the best way to describe the colour configuration of the GMTs and have been used for a while. What else is there to call them?

LVs are LVs. The new blue sub can just be called a blue sub. LOL because it is. As for the 'Hulk'. That's a green sub. Because it is. :D

Exactly. Plus I believe anyone with even basic knowledge of Rolex models would instantly know what people mean. Whereas Hulk and Kermit, bluesy etc is a little confusing and unnecessary. Nearly as unnecessary as Rollie. LOL

Also if you went into an AD and asked to look at the smurfs and the hulks and maybe a kermit I don't think they'd get what you meant. Pepsi or coke however...

I don't mind when other aficionados use these kind of 'pet names' on a forum like this but I cringe a bit when I hear it in daily life from posers and the socially ambitious who think it progresses their cause.

I had a guy at work look at my watch and he said "nice rollie" and I just stared at him until he walked away.
That's why I started this thread

X2! It's a Tudor not a Rolex. I think they should have a sub forum for Tudor, just like Omega, Panerai and Breitling.
I also find it really annoying when someone calls their Rolex a Rollie. I usually stop reading the thread.

Are you equally offended when people shorten Submariner to Sub or refer to an Explorer as an Expy? What about people who interchangeably use "your" and "you're" (or "there," "their," and "they're")?
Life is too short to let such things annoy you. |

But isn't that sort of a different situation? He was paying you a compliment. Even if the reference had annoyed me, I might have managed a "thanks." That's just good manners.

I agree. It is this type of reaction that will have this guy shaking his head and thinking what a snob rolex (or Rollie ) owners are. A better way to respond might have been " oh you mean rolex- yes it is and thanks. "

Anything less than calling a Rolex by it's factory given name is immature. I think, I am not sure of is the only line of Rolex that has a factory given name "Bark" that sounds so pathetic. A better name for that watch would be a military term "FUBAR". :)
