How bizzare. Either the DSSD or new E2 are going to be my next watch. I am leaning toward the E2 but will need to see it in the flesh before I make my final decision. If I had a DSSD already, I would say keep it and fund the E2 with raffle tickets...

For me, the slimness of the new Exp-II would definitely win over the whopping 18 mm thickness of the DSSD - not to mention the tremendous weight as well.

I would wait to see the ExpII on the wrist, the pictures that have been shown so far look very impressive but you'll never know until you actually try it on. You should also give it some time to let the "New" factor wear off on the ExpII.

DSSD is in a league of its own, comparing it to the Exp II is (i believe) basically an apples to oranges scenario?

also hard to factor in the brand new excitement quotient of a watch that hasn't even been made available yet... perhaps Exp II desire may fizzle once its been out for a while. then as a previous post stated you'll be out a chunk of change and wanting your DSSD again.

Re: DSSD is it big, of course it is! i don't think i could wear it without it constantly reminding me of its presence. Perhaps that is exactly what a watch should do for some, but not for me? that said it is a magnificent looking watch and again in a league of its own.

PS thank you JJ for offering facts and rational dialogue here. DSSD=18mm=BIG.
and god speed to your recovery!

I'm sure once the "newness" of the Exp II has worn off it will be just a run of the mill watch, whereas the DSSD will seem a bit more specialist and probably more rare.

I know it's my choice but wondered what you guys would do...flip the DSSD or keep it?

Cheers

interesting Mike.
as many people have already suggested... best to wait till you have physically handled the 42mm EXPII and then make the decision.

i personally would take the 42mm EXPII because i still cant get used to the height of the DSSD

Ever since I own 44mm watches I can't go back to anything less. When I compare my GMT II to DSSD the GMT II just too small for me now.

Try one on. Go home....think about it. Try one on a second time.....then decide.

Don't forget to bring the DSSD with you when you try on the new Explorer.

Have fun!!

Well, I know its not the same but to test the road I have recently acquired a 16750 Explorer! I never meant to get one but I got offered one in a trade for another watch in my collection and thought I'd give it a go.

So far so good...wasn't sure how much id like the metal bezel but it's one of the things i most like...loving the way it looks. Think this has tipped things further towards the new Exp II. Can't wait to try it on!

OK, Which dial do you have? MKI or MKII? If you have the MKI DSSD dial...this gets harder. It might be worth alot more down the road (20 years??). Maybe not the DRSD following, but you know how crazy collectors are for the rare stuff. The MKI dial may not be rare now...but, it is out of production. I have a load of watches and have not dawned my DSSD in maybe 6 months. But, I wore it the last two weeks and am still very happy with the purchase... Good Luck!

I'd give the Exp a try..

I love the DS but a bit too thick for me. The Exp seems like it would be a great daily watch. Will have to see it in person to really know.

No rolex will EVER become an outdated trend because it will always be a Rolex. Are any older Rolex's of years past undesirable now? No.

If the DSSD fits you well, keep it bc of it's uniqueness. There are many different YM, but only one DSSD.

In my defense, a few Rolex models of years past, kind of are, the Oyster Quartz & King Midas come to mind... no insult to them, but they were a trend & I feel that trend is somewhat outdated & less than desirable today... that said, I feel if you are a large individual, the over 40mm look is just fine... the trend of small wrist, huge watch, is what I was referring to as silly...

True but neither of them was a top performer in its class like the DSSD is. For comparison let's take the top performance car circa 1980
The Ferrari 308 Quattrovalvole...

Wore the DSSD for the first time this week...I like it too much to flip, think I'll just have to get the Exp II and keep the DSSD too :)
