I agree 100%. Very well stated. If you have papers that match the watch the chance of it being stolen are greatly reduced.

WooHoo
Went back to the AD today and they found the correct box and paperwork so I swapped this for this I gained a few bracelet links and a Rolex wallet thingy as well. They also gave a free valuation certificate incase I need to make an insurance claim and threw in the price tag that should have been on the watch when I bought it - means I had a £550 or 24% discount - not bad |

How fortunate for you to have a 6 year old watch vice a 22 year old one. A 6 year old watch without paper will have significantly more value then a 22 year old watch with papers. Not having papers has never been an issue for me personally.
Congratulations on having a fairly new watch and with the correct papers!

I think papers is a "nice to have" and I'd be prepared to pay more for the equivalent watch with papers but surely it comes down to where you purchase the watch.
If I purchased a watch from my AD without papers and it turns out to be stolen isn't this the responsibility of the AD? As its been said many times on this forum you really need to buy the Seller. |

If anyone needs evidence about the relevance of the certificate, watch this:
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=186875 The difference in price is US$ 6.050,-- vs. 5.250,-- |

I Agree also with bondtoys.
The real deal are not cheap watches and having paper or service paper with RSC will prove not just authenticity, but also that you are buying from someone that maintained the watch with updated original parts since now days is hard for some watchmakers to have original rolex parts. And when you call RSC last service for your watch they can see that on their data base based on serial no of your watch or last service ref#. |

If I were the AD, I'd fire the salesman. He should have known it wasn't the older model. |
