I did see a lorry carrying Polo Ponies with something like P5 NAY on the plate, made me chuckle. That would be a few hundred quid to buy, pop it in the for sale section in Horse and Hounds and get a couple of grand for it.

Someone I knew had M1 NAG and a lot of the polo guys had fun when the 2010 plates were released... PO10... (only problem was you needed a brand new wagon to put them on!)

I still say the best I ever saw was HOT 69!!!

My two watches (replacement cost) = what I could probably get for my 2007 Accord.

I have a 92 Honda Civic - it was my first car and still is my daily driver...it probably cost less than $2k by now. It's a good little car....and I don't have to worry about it when I park it on the streets.

My rolex & non-rolex watch collection is definitely worth more than my car.

My watches and my car may be worth about the same now. I drive an 06 Lexus GS300. Last night, I almost traded her in on a 2009 BMW 335D that has 18500 miles on it. But, I just could not part with my comfortable car since I spend two hours a day in it.

i was just thinking about this all day today. i use to be a big car enthusiast but with all the depreciation and constant maintenance i would prefer now to just buy watches. it would be great to afford both hobbies, but if i had to chose one it would be just watches.

I like full sized cars, so my current car is a 2010 Chevrolet Impala which had an MSRP of 27,500USD when I bought it in March of 2010. My Rolex total value is around 7k between my Date and Datejust. Also another grand in vintage Omega's.

HAHA, I'm redlining around 210. I have the power for more but not the gearing. I haven't been in it this fast but know it redlines around 210-212. I have pushed it over 195 but not enough track to get any faster. I'll have a TT system in place in a year or so with 1000+ HP (looking for 850 RWHP.) I can't wait.

I hate so say it but the fastest stock Viper is 202 (and I think thats a stretch.) I have driven some Hennesey cars and honestly they are nice but way too much brute force. They are very raw and crude IMO. I have a fully forged motor that is built to take the "low" amount of HP I have with the conservative tune. My motor will be fine until around 1250 HP. With a fully built forged motor its no different than driving a stock vette as far as wear and tear go.

Great post. Good to see everyone understands the value in having a timeless Rolex as opposed to a depreciating car...

My Mustang GT is about to get traded in for a daily driver(probably Toyota). My moded GT guzzles 91octane, and do to a recent promotion that requires me to drives 3 times the distance, time for horsepower to go away. The money I'll save in gas can go towards that Sub-C I want!!

I'm driving an old beat-up 1994 Honda Accord and owned 2 Rolex watches. Looking to purchase a third Rolex soon.

I drive a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu now that I bought several years ago. Prior to that, I had a 1996 Geo Prism which was pushing nearly 200,000 miles but it was a great car-it got me where I needed to go and it was completely paid for. Didn't look like much but it served me well. To this day, I still wonder where that old car ended after I traded it towards the Malibu. Is it still going? Is it rusting away in a junkyard? It was as if I said farewell to an old friend because that car really got me through some tough times.

Paid over $50k for my S2K when new. That was lots for me.
Is that a Honda S2000? Was it priced that high due to extra options or because you bought it in Canada? Last time I was at the Honda dealer, that was a $35K car. Nice car BTW.

Our 5 Rolex watches are worth more than our 3 cars, but cars depreciate rapidly, even very nice, desirable cars. Over the years I should have spent less on cars, and more on real estate, guns, and Rolex watches.

In Northern Ireland we have a similar system to the rest of the UK, with three letters followed by up to four numbers. In 2006 or 2007, "BIG 1" came up and it was auctioned for £90,000 ($135,000) to a man who looked like he did not get the irony.

If it appreciates, spend as much as you can. If it depreciates, spend as little as you need.

I have a SD and an IWC Pilot Chrono, both of which are worth far more than my 2003 VW and 2005 Renault. I wouldn't have it any other way.

My watches are worth maybe $5000 and I don't even own a car
My boss provides me with a $40000 car (cars are expensive in EU) and I pay about $500 tax for it per month. I would say the car costs me more...
I'll change it to a more efficient one soon that will save me $250 tax/month.
That way I can save more for my next watch! At least that's the plan

It's funny readiing thread after reading the thread about "does your watch match what you drive" There's some serious car fanatics/loaded folks over on that one. Ferrari's, vipers and highly modded vette's seem to be the choice over there. I fit in much better over here. :) I drive an early 90's Nissan Pathfinder.

I'm one to drive a car to death, so at some point, the value will almost certainly fall below that of my watches. Currently, that is the case with my daily drive a 10 year old lincoln @ around 200K miles.

Yeah I followed the same approach when I purchase P17 BUH which like you and a little movement and tweaking the H reads PITBULL.

Back on topic my car is used as my works motor so does get a fair bit of wear and tear and usually buy year or two old and run for 3 before selling off so typically floats around the same value as my Sub-C.

Next time round think I'll just lease via my business, sell current motor and the wife's A-class and get a weekend toy :-)
