Nothing additional from the OP so far, and he was last online today at 1136am. I am still wondering what the "Green" solution was and what the material of the cloth was, such that it would do such a thing, yet not be harmful to handle.....

Thanks for all the valuable feedback. Tomorrow I will meet with the owner of the kiosk, so I will try to keep you posted about what happens.
If I get the $1k it costs to replace I will take it to the AD and have them fix it. I have come to realize that putting an aftermarket piece on it will drive me even more nuts. If the owner of the kiosk doesn't want to pay up, I will probably just leave as is.

As to how it is possible that a polishing cloth damaged the solid 18k bezel in matter of minutes....IT CAN and IT DID. Be VERY careful of those "microfiber" cloths. Stainless steel can handle it, 14k gold can handle it, 18k will not. 18k gold is too malleable. According to my post-screw up research, these cloths have a chemical and tiny microscopic particles that act as a buffing stone once applying friction.

I am located in Miami...these kiosks are in all malls. They usually spot your Rolex or Omega from miles away and offer to "clean it" by rubbing it against the magical cloth and them dunking it in a green solution to "bring the shine up".

Not meaning to bash you or anything, but I see no reason why the kiosk should compensate you. It's not like they put a gun to your head, you handed them the watch by your own will. It was a mistake, learn from it and move on. If you do end up getting 1k from them, fix it with original parts, otherwise you're just being greedy and that's the kind of karma you don't want in your life. That said, I hope things will work themselves out and you can keep enjoying your watch

Agree! I wouldn't be holding out for that cash.

How long are they going to be at that mall? What proof do you have that they damaged the watch? What will you do if they say the watch was already like that when you gave them it?

You need to get that cash quick!
