Nope, there still isn't a watch I'd rather have over my silver stick SS 16200. It'll be with me to th end.

Don't get rid of the Sub! I gave my very good friend my 11 year old 16610 and I miss that watch very much. The Submariner is the best of the Rolex line of watches IMHO.

I've never thought of "upgrading" any of my Rolex watches because how can you upgrade? All Rolex watches are masterpieces in their own right. Some cost more than others, but that is all.

Back in 2003, I sold my TT Thunderbird for a SS/Plat Yachtmaster. Last month I sold the YM for a SS Daytona (black dial of course)!

I would never part with my first Rolex. Too many attachments (bought Christmas eve with my wife during first year of marriage).

Had I purchased used, I would not think twice about parting with the watch.

I was tempted to answer "no way" but let me try a bit further.

I believe there are some among us that develop an emotional attachment to their timepieces, while others take more of a practical / fashion / more detached approach.

I am in the first group and, unless compelled by sheer need, I would not sell them. I however understand and would not scoff at fellow board members in the second.

Chances are that if you start appreciating fine timepieces sometime in the future ( and a 14,060M is a very promising first step, even if it's a kind of entry level piece) you will, deeply regret selling any of them to "trade up", especially considering that these pieces pretty much hold their value if you are patient enough.

I'd say wait until you can afford a second one, especially talking about a 14,060 M, the last of the classic submariners.

It's the ONLY Rolex in my collection ( I am lucky to own more of them than fingers to count them) I bought brand new, and in theory the humblest ( I own my share of vintage Subs), but I LOVE it. DO NOT sell it.

Yes I would sell.

I'm not emotionally attached to my watches. I like them.

I bought my 14060m with the intention of if becoming "my watch"...

I still have (and occasionally wear) the TAG I wore all through my twenties and a couple of other watches but I really do hope that I'll have my 14060m all my life.

I'd like a "proper" dress watch (Patek 5119) and I do have my eyes on a few others but I would intend for these to be part of a collection and for use on specific occasions whereas my Sub will remain on my wrist 95% of the time.

When I bought it money wasn't a major restricting factor in what I chose (ie I considered an AP worth 4 times as much) so, despite being at the cheaper end of the scale, my 14060m was never a compromise, it was the one I wanted!

I think I would. I sold my very first Sub (I got 2nd hand in 1993) to get a brand new Sub in 1996.

I wouldn't but I did. Tried to buy it back from the guy I've sold it to but not a chance. Even if it's a watch that brings me back memories of a difficult time of my life(that's why I've sold it) it was a watch worth keeping and eventually pass on.

From reading everyone's comment, it looks like there's a distinct group of First hand / Brand new owners as their first watch which they kept forever and would never sell. I think I am leaning towards that group because of the also emotional attachment, the "first born baby" effect.

Whereas the second group is the "adopted child" or bought pre-owned which somewhat had less emotional but practical and trading it much like a commodity to seek for their holy grail :)

At this stage, I think I should sit back relax, enjoy the watch for a few more months, and then look to purchase my next piece :D

I'm looking at the 116610LV and the 116334 white dial DJII 41mm.

Yes, and I did. After 23 years I traded my original Explorer II for a Sub C. I have since given the Sub C to my Son but still own a two tone, Bluesy Sub which I'll never part with.

No, I usually don't sell anything unless I have two identical models. Even my "entry level" AK will never be sold, it was a gift from a Lodge Brother.

I sold my first Rolex, a DJ. It was a reward, for being #1 at work. You might think that the accomplishment would have made that watch have even higher sentimental value... But no. It was so damn ugly.

I "downgraded." Sold the DJ. Bought a 14060 Sub and pocketed the difference.

I couldn't be happier with my transactions.

My advice: Follow your gut instincts. If it feels right, it probably will be fine.

I sold my first (14060) and instantly regretted it. I love my GMTiic and Daytona a lot, however, the regret has not gone away, and I kick myself because now the price has almost doubled on that no date Sub.

No, but I've had my Sub since '72 so it would be like cutting off my left hand.

I sold my first for a so called upgrade. It was a Sea Dweller for a SS & 18k Blue Sub. I no longer have either watch. Ten years later, I am better off financially and sometimes wish I had kept both watches and grew the collection more slowly, instead of trading-in and trading-up. Both watches are replacable, but no replacement will replace the experiences I had while wearing both watches.

No, my first Rolex was a graduation present from my parents who are now passed. I'll never let go of it.
