Update: Pepsi Z is gone! Sold quickly to a TRF trusted seller. You'll probably see it in the For Sale section soon. I gave it 3 more months...still not singing to me. It didn't help that almost every other one I saw in the wild was on an older man's wrist.

Perusing the current crop of polar Exp II 42s. Ideally I would skip it & go right for the AP 15400 but unfortunately $14K is a little out of my budget at this time. The Exp II is very nice & more of an everyday watch anyway.

for me, no brainer.....definitely flip it.

love the look of the pepsi. absolutely love it. however, i think it's dated. i personally love the newer watches. the clasp and bracelet IMHO make a HUGE difference.

and, i think the new explorer (old one too) are excellent!!!! love the entire explorer line actually.

and.....if you are not getting enjoyment from your pepsi. make the change. why spend the extra money to get two, simply to leave one in the safe.

Someone somewhere said a 5513 and this was "dated" at one point....

i suppose time will tell. clearly it did with the two you mentioned.

i am certain that for many other references, they were dated. again, time will tell.

ps, if and when it happens in the ceramic version, i am all over it.

I used to be a huge GMT guy, now they are all gone. I even went as far as to have a few of them with all the different inserts at one time, but them I kept one and purchased all 3 inserts. They are all gone and I don't miss them at all, no more tiny crown to mess with.

I'm not a big fan of the old GMT - the small crown and clasp were somewhat irksome (imho) - so I say 'good flip'

The Pepsi GMT is right up there with the red Sub and the Newman Daytona. A shame to let that classic icon go for a newer watch that becomes more common each day. But that's just my opinion. Do what you think is right for you.

I myself am very dated and prefer the older GMT style over the newer model
I would keep the pepsi

I believe you made the right call. I rather have watches that I want to wear instead of keeping them in the safe.
There are plenty of GMTII 16710 out there and you will be able to buy one again in the future; service an used watch thru RWSC will make it look new.
Sub-C and ExpII 42mm are great combo.

After 2 tours with the 16710, I won't be buying another. I understand the appeal of the classic Rolex, but its too similar to my favorite, the Sub-C.

Current wishlist is a AP 15400, PAM 390, Exp II 42 polar & new JLC Master Control, probably in that order.

I agree with you - and I was a little taken back being a former SUBC owner getting my 1680 with the outdated bracelet...

However, the more im wearing it, the more I realize the old models had an insane "balance" to them. They are light as hell, making them first appear "cheap" by today's bulk and "solidity" standards of the bracelet. But then you wear it and it disappears on your wrist.
And then you realize it sits perfectly on your wrist while not moving around at all, like the new models do BECAUSE of their heft (maybe thats just me? but I wear mine a TOUCH loose, and the 1680 doesn't go anywhere).

The new models are beautiful and cool in their own right, and the old models were really designed to be comfy and utilitarian and they sacrificed the bling and bulk to do that.

I LOVE both models.

Keep the pepsi man. It's a classic and i would love to own one.

I wouldn't. I'd keep the Pepsi and save up for the Expy 2 if you really like it so much. Consider this, it is much harder to find and buy a Pepsi again than it is to get the new Expy 2.

Did the same thing and have not regretted it for a moment, my expl II polar gets more wristtime than the sub c!
I am not a collector and the new bracelets are just way better than the old ones.

I find it an interesting debate because I find that the 16710 has become a "collectors" watch and that it has become far less pedestrian than other models. My wife hates my Pepsi and thinks it is so ugly but she kept laughing in Vegas because everytime we went in an ad someone would notice it and say "Oh, that is a very collectible piece." you would swear I was wearing a red sub or Newman Daytona. Anyways, my point is the 16710 is a classic and it is something that once gone, you can't just walk down to the local ad and order a new one of. This fact has made me appreciate my 16710 and 16610LV even more than ever. So in short, I'd never make this trade; but if you don't wear it enough, then move on, plenty of folks on TRF who would love to have your Z 16710 in their rotations.
