There is a perfect watch, mine! (well, at least for me it is!) For your points above: 1. I'm not worried about that due to certain laws allowing carrying of certain things we shall not talk about on TRF. 2. I have been wearing mine around the office and no one has noticed much less said anything. 3. Not familiar with Swedish envy, there is good old USA envy though. Maybe not the same though. If you can get one you should do it and not worry about it! I highly recommend it! |

There are a lot of perfect watches. I have bought and sold at least 25 of them.

IMHO there isn't. I think the SubC is about as close to all around perfection that Rolex makes.

There is indeed the perfect watch, the ss Daytona with the black dial, it's perfect in my book and is defiantly on my list of future watch purchases.

The Submariner covers all the bases from shorts and tee shirts to a tuxedo, can't be beat imho.

Yes it does. Of course, the more subjective criteria one uses to assess the candidates, the more limited the choices.

For me it would be:
A Sub C, but... 42mm (I'm not fashionable or trendy, but at 6'8, 350 lbs, size 17 feet, 42 is 39 on me ;) ) And we're talking about MY perfect watch. :) A quick change strap/bracelet, similar to Panerai, but NOT proprietary like IWC/Cartier. A clever hidden pushbutton system that allows you to quickly detach a bezel or insert to install a different color. Like blue, red, green, etc. the colored inserts sold as accessories. (I fully realize the last 2 will never happen. ) More tapered lugs. Pointy crown guards. The Glidelock version the Deepsea uses. Even brighter, longer lasting lume. 3-5 day power reserve. Replace rotor bearing sleeve with ceramic bearings. Increase WR to 1000m without increasing thickness of the watch. Make the bezel pip/pearl flush with insert. That's all I want. :) |

Yes. It is called the 1665. Vintage w/ soul, unparalleled dive history, bullet proof movement, rare, cool HEV for some pop, sweet domed crystal, decent bracelet, and three varieties for you (DRSD, Rail Dial, Great White).

Agree. For me it would probably be one of these 2.

For me it would be the A Lange & Sohne Platinum Double Split. This watch is hard to beat from every angle IMHO. It is a delight to look at and wear and to me is the ultimate in haute horlogerie as the world's only double rattrapante.
PS. And yes I am quite biased but in this case rightfully so.

I guess the perfect watch for me is that one watch that is perfect for every situation, easy to use, has some flair, and is a standout amongst its competitors. In which case, I think the SS GMT IIc is just about as close as you can get to a perfect everyday luxury watch.
Now, an ultimate watch would be something different indeed, in which case, I would probably have an ALS Datograph - see Ken's watch porn for more details |
