If Vegas is what you want and she agrees, than go for it. Personally I dont understand what the fascination with Vegas is, specially coming from London which is such a great city - one of my favorites!

these ribs are unreal

here's the recipe from my own personal stash:

For the ribs
1.5kg ribs (forget baby back, we're going to slow-cook first!!!)
1 tsp whole black peppercorns
3 bay leaves
1 small bunch fresh flatleaf parsley, leaves only
1 onion, roughly chopped
1 carrot, chopped

For the bourbon sauce
175g tomato ketchup
150g chipotle chilli ketchup
110ml oz dark soy sauce
175g clear honey
4 tbsp ready-made teriyaki sauce
4 tbsp bourbon whiskey - one you'd drink yourself, no cheap nastiness here, and pour yourself one!

Chips
I usually get some very big spuds, cut them 2cm thick and as long as possible, boil them for 10 mins, then pop them in the oven for 30-35 mins until golden and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside so they can soak up the bourbon sauce. Make sure to cover them in a bit of olive oil before they go in the oven.

Preparation method
Place the ribs, peppercorns, bay leaves, flatleaf parsley, onion and carrot into a large pan. Cover with water and bring to the boil.
Once the mixture is boiling, reduce the heat until the mixture is simmering.
Simmer for 1˝ hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
For the bourbon sauce, place the tomato ketchup, chilli ketchup, soy sauce, honey, teriyaki sauce and bourbon into a separate pan, stir well and bring the mixture to a simmer. Simmer for 1-2 minutes, then remove from the heat.
When the ribs have simmered for 1˝ hours, dip them into the bourbon sauce, then place them onto a roasting tray, reserving the remaining sauce. Roast in the oven for 10-12 minutes, then spoon over more of the bourbon sauce. Continue to roast for a further 10-12 minutes, then remove from the oven and set aside on a warm plate.

Serve with chips/fries and your favourite beverage.

Dinner of champions!!!

Unless its for religious reasons - a total waste of time & expense IMHO

All that crap about committment etc - I knew a guy who was on wife No 2 at 24 !!! He was engaged to No 2 before the divorce from No 1 came through ..... !!

I think Badger had a valid point though - if your job means your "wife" would get looked after better than if you just lived together - then thats a consideration .... !!

No right or wrong answers !

Anders, by not having a wedding you may be taking away some really happy and proud moments from your family and your girlfriends family as well as your girlfriend. I can certainly empathise with you when thinking about the cost, especially in these uncertain times. It is a problem that is not easy to solve, and one that really needs a good discussion with your girlfriend.

sort of agree with that... its only a day of activities

it is probably more ideal to manage it "economically" and spend the rest on a house.... cos us Aussies will never be happy living in a flat

Puffy, if you ask at a place like this I will say no.

Marriage is something you do deep from your heart, if you challenge the decision just wait until you don't.

Just my 2 cent's.

BTW I'm happy unmarried.

As they say, "Good luck with that!"

But seriously, you can have a wedding you can tolerate, or even one you cannot, and it should have very little if anything to do with the course of a good life together. I had the stupidest wedding ever, and we hated every second, but then it was over and done and didn't leave a mark, just some fondue pots.
The stupidest wedding ever.... I can so relate. Didn't take long to realize it was my mom and dad's show. What I wanted really didn't even matter - it was all about impressing their family and friends. I endured it just as my husband did!

Well I get married two weeks from tomorrow. Been planning 18 months. If you aren't ready DONT. It's not fair to you or her. Weddings are EXPENSIVE!!!!!! Her family is Somewhat well off and I'm just paying for honeymoon and rehearsal dinner and that's still in 5 figures. We are having a large wedding with 250ish confirmed guests at the moment. Nowadays spending $75-125k on a wedding isn't that unusual. Our wedding planner has a $300k wedding in late July. We didn't go completely overboard but the large number of guests really ran the bill up. Wedding dresses are obsurdly high. A lot cost as much or more than a new Rolex. Heck it was $1500 to rent tablecloths. Put wedding in front of anything and the price doubles. Don't even get me started on flowers. We were offered a large amount of money from her parents not to have a huge wedding but to just take very close friends and family on a destination wedding. I wanted to. She didn't. Anyway this is a huge commitment. You must be ready for it. IMHO many people don't take marriage seriously. It's a big deal and I intend it to be for life. Good luck!!!!

If you do go through with it don't plan on a year of fights over what you call "utter nonsense".Go into it with an open mind. I've had a great time planning it and Im happy that she is enjoying every minute of it. So what if I miss a few Saturdays on the golf course to go pick out flowers or picture frames. If you really feel this way perhaps you aren't ready.

Gunter that sounds like one hell of a fest!!!!!

That's what I'm trying to avoid, I'd much rather have a quiet day with our folks and perhaps tie the knot at the marylebone register office, like this guy.....

You got it. We just gave up/in.

The fact is, a couple today can do anything they want to please themselves, provided they're in control of the money for it. It can be modest and just lovely. It can be huge and horrifying. But finally, it's just a show for a day, and not to be confused with marriage itself.

28 years ago my husband and I exchanged vows in front of 200+ family and friends. It was great fun. These days families tend to be more spread out. In my family, we say "we'll see you at the next marrying or burying.". A marrying is much more fun. You've said this is the girl you want to spend the rest of your life with. Why not throw a good party to cement the deal? Set a budget you're comfortable with and let 'er rip! Really, when was the last time you shared a drink with your cousins, her aunts and uncles and danced with her grandmother? Weddings are for gathering the clan and sharing the love. Share the love.

divorce attorney/ex cop here:

1 question to ask yourself:

Is this the LAST woman, the only woman I ever want to be with ever again?

Depending on how you answer that q, proceed accordingly.

Dont get me wrong, I am a HUGE fan of marriage. Never tried it, but I hear it's fun. Like voting in Louisiana or Chicago, get married early and often I say. Besides, this way 1/2 the jokes told here and in bars will start to make sense.

Seriously bro, if you have to ask a bunch of blokes on line that you have never met if you should make the 2nd most important decision of your life (kids is the 1st), then what does that tell you?

If you want to be married then do it. Let her have her day, her way and go along.
Protect her from her mother or anyone else that wants to bully their ideas and influence her dream day. You'll be married forever. The celebration is special in its own way but it's only good if it's done the way she wants.

If you and the future Mrs. Puffy can`t even get on the same page for the wedding ceremony then I say you need to red flag the whole thing until you get it figured out.

This is my opinion and should not be construed as advice ,I am not qualified in any way shape or form.
