Allow me to clarify the Seiko comment: The LARGE Day window extending from the 3 o'clock position towards the dial center. That ain't no cyclops, its a Citizen/Seiko for sure.

Croton usually positions the day at 12 o'clock window in their homages.

Great! We've learned that the OP doesn't like gold-like Rolex "looking" watches...
I think we should bid adieu to this topic!

Idioms & Phrases
bid adieu

Say goodbye, take leave of, as in It's beyond my bedtime, so I bid you all adieu , or I'll be glad to bid adieu to these crutches . French for "goodbye," adieu literally means "to God" and was part of à dieu vous commant , "I commend you to God." Adopted into English in the 1300s, it was first recorded in Chaucer's Troilus and Cressida (c. 1385). Today it is considered quite formal, although it also is used humorously.

With respect Mickey the word commant doesn't exist in French, there is the word comment, which means how, but I don't think that's what you meant. The word commend in French should actually be commande, then again the sentence à Dieu vous commande doesn't really make sense to me...

You're right though, we do bid people adieu sometimes.

Mh...interesting! Perhaps it was the way to write it in old French. Please accept my apologies mate!

...so depending on who is wearing a perfectly respectable timepiece...some of you can get turned off to the brand? I can sort of understand when they "costume" the watch or modify beyond recognition. But simply because I don't favor a person doesn't affect how I feel about a watch they may be wearing. Sounds silly to me.

Well said Carl. I don't see anything wrong with the guy in the OP's post and kind of feel bad that he's being made fun of here. How would he feel if he were a member and saw this thread?

Rich, I would gladly agree with you should this thread really be about this particular man (who I still don't know...could anybody help me with this?) but according to Chris's other post it seems like the subject got a bit out of hand, he was talking more about the look of the watch on his wrist than the man himself.

Trying desperately to understand your way of thinking. You're turned off of Rolex by looking at a picture of an average working fellow wearing a Seiko on the cover of a government transport magazine?

What's there to be turned off about with that photo? Maybe it will be better when two hotties are in that cover with a Rolex!

This magazine came across my desk and the picture was a big turn off for me. It looks like an all gold datejust.

Way I feel is, if a watch is great (or simply, you happen to like it for whatever reason) there's no reason some other person wearing or not wearing it should influence you. But, some entertaining perspectives in this thread for sure!

I think the OP is just saying that the dude looks goofy. He could be wearing an Omega, and it would still be the same thread title.

Except, the watch looks more like a Seiko or Citizen.

The Dentistry forum is also going through the same thread: "Denture Turn-off Pictures."

The "turn-off" is that the taxpayers paid for this "public sector" employee's Rolex. Just sayin'...

So all "public sector" employees should not make any more than minimum wage or own "fine time pieces" like the Seiko or Citizen shown in the picture no matter their skills or level of responsibility? You get what you pay for...just sayn'...

Being in the "public sector" and having some colleagues that also own a Rolex I find your statement highly offensive. We were laughed at by others from 1998-2008 for working for "such little money". Now people like you think anything above minimum wage is too much. My organization has a high vacancy rate in my field because people like you think that the market rate for pay does not apply to the "public sector".

PS: Class envy is also a "turn-off". Just sayn'...

What is wrong with the OP's picture? I honestly do not understand. If It was Brad Pitt on the left in the same outfit and watch (Rolex or Seiko etc) I doubt there would be any turn off. Its almost like saying unattractive people should not wear a nice watch. To be perfectly honest, I like the picture! Seems like two hard workers and one has a hard working watch!

those two fellows are smiling, so am wondering more about what they had for lunch,

then again I was also thinking the guy on the left should be wearing the other fellow's tie - the patterns and colors could be in "Boogie Nights"

That guy reminds me of how I used to be

When I was in high school, I was always proud to do those "Chess/Latin/Chemistry/etc. of the Year" recognitions. And I'd have those huge glasses, bad hair cut, and heinous sweat pants on, and I'm sure some uncool old watch my Dad wore. But I loved doing it, oblivious to my dorkiness. Now that I'm older, I hate doing those recognition things that don't translate into more $$$, and I spend too much time caring what others think. But that guy looks like he still loves what he does, and he looks so proud of his job and watch. I sometimes wish I could go back to being like that.
