More to the point ...

... how are they considered a Rolex Authorized Seller? Rolex really need to re-vamp their retail criteria IMHO. As if I need another reason to buy from trusted sellers here And Thank God they are -Ron

There are a lot of rich people on Long Island with little knowledge and credit cards,
I bet the watch will sell for 14k!! They probably bought it for 8k on a trade, or even less!!

Tourneau sucks not because they have salespeople who don't know the products but because of their pricing policies. I would never buy a watch from them.

4 years ago I asked them how much they would give me for a mint 16610--their best trade-in price was $1,800! This is trade-in, on a piece with no discounts. A 2nd hand watch shop was willing to give me $3500 on the spot!

Forgive my ignorence, John, I wasn't sure if they were just watches or jewellery + watches. Training over here from the manufacturer was pretty much non-existent during my time working at an AD (although this is being addressed now), so I don't know whether it is the same in the US or not. Even so, I strongly believe you shouldn't be able to sell product solo without a basic knowledge of it, especially for a high-end purchase like a luxury watch

I bought a watch from them one time. Full price. That was a while ago and I still get angry at myself. They must have been doing backflips after I left.

I gotta say that although they have such a crap reputation on this forum, I've never had bad service at any of their locations that I've visited.

Not necessarily. I use to go to the SF store once in a while when I'm in the area.
This all changed during my last visit about six months ago. At that time I was contemplating on getting a JLC and was called a "cheap ass" by one of the female Asian skanks working at the SF store. I didn't know JLCs were "cheap" watches. LoL.

Another time, a Tourneau employee considered my Chopard to be an equivalent of a Casio when I was trying on a jlc rdm. So never assume with Tourneau. Each visit is like dating an unknown girl. YMMV.

Exactly my point. And who knows, they have multiple locations, but here in New York I did not see anything but watches. Nice place to see a lot of different watches all at once.

Ever since finding the trusted sellers here I have no want or need to ever go into another watch dealer ever again. Maybe it's just my luck but I often find that the luxury watch sales staff are more pushy than used cars salesmen.

I did recently make this mistake at the Waikiki Tourneau but I was with a friend that wanted to see an Overseas Chrono. The woman helping us had no clue what he was talking about and was incredibly presumptuous and far too aggressive.

I feel that many go to "window shop" and try out many different brands. Personally I would not purchase anything there.

I went in a couple of times in Vegas and NY to see whats new. A year ago I went to the pre-owned section in Vegas and saw a beautiful "McQueen" Explorer listed for $5k. I immediately called the salesperson over to make sure it was correct. Of course it was tagged incorrectly but at least it goes to show you the sales rep was actually knowledgable.

I feel the exact same way. I always hear all these complaints on here but always have a great time there. I go to the Tourneau in King of Prussia Pennsylvania about 4-5x a year. I've never purchased there and won't as I have a great AD but I always had top rate service there. In the 25-30x I've been in there I've had only 1 sub par salesman. I know there are some terrible stories about them but they sell A LOT of watches. I was in there in late August and in the 45 min I was in there I watched a Rolex and PAM get sold. They always have a great selection and I look forward to going in every time I'm in KoP.

Went to the Walt Whitman mall in Long Island a few hours ago.

There were literally three people in tourneau and they were together. A friend and I walked in and straight to the Rolex display case. From what I can remember, there were seven or eight employees in the store at the time.

I was dressed fairly well in jeans, a button down and a cardigan. My friend was dressed decently as well. We definitely didn't look like bums or anything. Assuming that is one of their criteria for service.

We stood at the display case clearly interested and me obviously pointing to different models. Stood there for a good three or four minutes. None of the employees even attempted to come over to us. Zero communication.

So there you have it. Obviously everyone has different experiences but my friend gets angry in these situations and I definitely had to calm her down a bit as we walked out.

On a side note, the other three people in the store were being helped and I overheard the sales lady explaining the advantages of buying from an AD and that they do not budge on prices.

A few months ago I would have told you that I would only buy from an AD but with all the price increases and the fact that Tourneau does not budge on anything, my next Rolex will almost certainly come off these forums. Tourneau lost me on the prices a long time ago. That said, my experience with them has been hit and miss. All depends on the staff.

If anyone is in the North Jersey area I highly recommend Ross-Simons at the Short Hills Mall. I can't speak on the prices but that's because I spent an hour just trying on watches and being shown what was out there by the sales staff. Phenomenal experience. They truly love timepieces and spent about an hour talking about my Explorer II, letting my try on the salesman's Breitling Superocean Heritage as well as numerous Datejusts, a Milgauss, and GMTIIC. Zero pressure yet held their complete attention even after I told them upfront I was only browsing for the future. They encouraged me to take pictures, treated like gold. Hell if you are in the NYC area period I recommend going there just to talk watches with amazing staff.

As WIS there are few sales people who know as much as we who spend many hours discussing and getting our training on the forums.

I was treated well at the Tourneau in Waikiki a month or so. Great selection, and I could handle anything I wanted.

I always like to talk to the watchmakers. They had an in-house watchmaker. I asked him how many 3135's he did in a week. He didn't answer, but gave me smile and said, "You just can't go wrong with a Rolex" as he noted my GMT II Pepsi.

Perhaps to the shop the OP was considered as a non prspect so the junior sales person was sent in and got caught out.
I am guessing she was a pretty lady??

Tourneau runs their business by selling a good product at the price the market will allow. That's a pretty good business model. The stores in the Dallas and Houston Gallerias had lots of watches to look at and were reasonably busy the few times I walked through. The sales people are, to me, obviously on commission and hungry to make a sale. Both stores were great places to see lots of different brands and pre-owned watches in person. I rarely see so many in one place. I've never bought there, but I can see why they seem to do OK.

I remember standing at the Tourneau service window in SoCal watching the 'tech' work on a customer's watch. I don't know what brand the watch was, but I could see that it had a mechanical movement as the back was off the watch. I then saw the tech suddenly sneeze directly into the movement from about six inches above. I was stunned...

I like Tourneau. I have been in the Waikiki store a few times. Under one roof I could handle many fine brands. I am there to see the watches first hand and I appreciative the opportunity they provide of allowing me to do so. They also had a watchmaker in the store which is better then most jewelers. No, they are not a great jeweler like Wiixon's in Minneapolis, but they have the goods.
