I would rather have the 3 watches, but none from the 4 brands you list. There are a few Pateks I like but none from the other brands.

Are you interested in the Rolex because of the platinum?
I would buy the watch that I liked with the superior movement and functionality before buying a metal

No reason to drop new Mercedes money on any watch you don't think is in "the upper league." if movement finishing is your priority, probably don't go with Rolex. It's not a top priority for me and I love Rolex.

difficult
The platinum has that special 'something' because the material is rather unique especially the fact that there are not much bracelet type of watches in platinum, it's an understated watch, if you compare them next to a white gold or steel watch you can 'see' the difference, but separate them and everyone thinks it's a simple steel version, unless you are a rolex man that knows that f.ex. the ice dial comes only in platinum versions ....
on the other hand you can buy a used Lange datograph at the same price and of course this is a totally different kind of league in terms of finishing and status .... my guess is that the platinum is a watch that mostly will give a kick to the person who wears it rather than those who will look at it and think it's just an other Rollie pic from the net |

IMHO..
For me that is, I pick the DD2 PT anytime very time (if I do not have one yet) Rolex might be the only company that offers choice of a full PT bracelet hence make this watch special. I am living in a humid tropical climate, I need my watch to have at least 20m water resistance and preferablly no leather strap. I agree PP has good resale value (depends on which model). Rolex on the other hand, I know a number of ppl who owns a PT DD2, they are not selling or trading in theirs anytime soon thus it is very hard to find pre-own on the current market. I do not know which boutique can give you 30-35% off for the PT DD2, here, direct from rolex boutique, you can get best discount at 15%, no more. PP boutique I can easily get 20-25% off (paying cash will help too cos credit card company charge the vendor 3-5%). Buy the watch you like and the one you know you will wear it everyday and the one you know will not give you trouble in the long run. Don't worry so much about the resale value. I would assume ppl who can afford it most probably do not need to think about liquidating it anytime soon. Enjoy your watch life too short to make such compromise. P/S: if resale value is not your concern, if you are after advant grade, comfortable watch, check out Richard Mille! Cheers and good luck! .. James |

I find my plat DDII very comfortable.
Rolex is like the Hotel California, you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave. It just freakin works! |

Tough choice between the patek and the Lange, but definately wouldn't go for the Rolex at that price point. Personnally I love the wg Dd2 and the wg sub, but I'm topped out on Rolex at that point.

I'm a proud owner of a 14060 - and LOVE it...but if I had my choice, it's got to be a Royal Oak. That's an awesome piece.

I think this is all going to ride on you. If you don't have many Rolexes then for certain get yourself the flagship model of the brand, however if your downing in Rolexes then maybe it's a good idea to change it up a bit. I also agree with the first response on this thread about Rolex being probably the most durable brand. Just my opinion tho.

For that kind of money, Patek Philippe without any doubt. You'll get a lot more watch. A lot.

I had the 36mm and loved it. There is something pure about the weight of it. In the end I decided it was to much cash into one watch at this point in my collection. Someday I will get another for sure.
I could easily be happy with a PP or AP at that price also, probably a rose gold jumbo, but I will still end up with a Pt DD. |

I would go rolex as for me its the only watch brand I will wear.i don't see the attraction of the pateks, langes,ap etc.i know they are fine watches but to me they are very ugly looking.for my money you can't beat a rolex, jmo.i know most wont agree with me but this is a rolex forum so I'm sticking up for the rolex all day.

After owning so many brands including Rolex, Omega, Panerai, AP, Patek and the likes, I still have a lot of love for Rolex!
Yes, when compared to AP and Patek the finishing of the movement is not in a 22 Kt gold but it is a very Robust, do anything, go anywhere and still a top watch! Look at it this way... When I wear my AP or Patek I have to be careful and tend to baby them... But with any of my Rolex watches I don't even think twice cause I know it can take what ever I put it through! So the bottom line is this... go with what your heart tells you! Yes you could buy a Patek... and if that suits your life style then go for it... if not there is nothing wrong with the Pt Daydate... I would happily do it! Good luck with your decision...
