Now that my eyes are going bad, I really don't see the light desk swirls unless I put my glasses on. The fix? I don't wear my glasses often.

Yeah, I hear ya, I do hate the ultra P.C sensitivities. You are dead on in your post. You're what we call a fireman.....you just put one out.

You hear that young bucks, getting old can now be rewarding, yay....
Ironically, I think I'm starting to need glasses.

One of the basic principles if you will of Buddhism is the acceptance that all things are impermanent. Decay is part of life and inseparable from it.

Of course, there is always rebirth (send it to the RSC) and it will return like new to start the cycle all over again.

Scratches happen no matter what the bracelet material. I use a pad that is similar to the mouse pad and lay it under my keyboard were my wrists lay. It does not look out of the ordinary compared to placing a towel under your wrist. I do know that my watch will acquire swirls and hopefully only hairline scratches throughout its lifetime, or at least until it is time for a service. Then I would only lightly polish the case and bracelet. Generally collectors want the original polish on the watch rather than a heavy crisp polish. You see some older vintage watches that you know did not remain that pristine in the 40 plus years it has been around. Some people might like the super sharp bevel and all the grains lined up. However if you have a chance just look at some real beauties and notice they have never had a heavy polish.
Steelerman65 always posts some incredible watches that have never seen a polishing machine. The beauty is in the watch that has never had a mechanical polish and only lightly polished. Like others have said the first one or two scratches you think the world is coming to an end. It is not. You will look back at the markings and hopefully have a smile on your face gazing at your beautiful watch.
Take care enjoy your watch for what it is. your watch!

Aloha from Kauai.

Tom

John, your comparison with a car is pretty much perfect but it's like not driving on the highway/motorway because you don't want stone chips. It's just silly!

Either way, I'm happy to put it behind us and move on!

Pay for the watch then tell your AD it is your retirement present to yourself and ask them to keep it in their safe until you retire.

A couple of years ago we bought a new house and there was a children's wooden swing/play set in the backyard. After tearing it down, I had to get rid of the concrete in the post holes so grass would grow back. I was almost finished jackhammering out the last post hole and my wife came out and asked if I was wearing my Rolex. Oops. I forgot to take it off. It gained a couple of scratches from the afternoon's activity, but that's it. The Explorer II still runs like a champ and took quite a punishing. I'm in such a habit of wearing it, I forget all about it.

I've NEVER heard of scratches before, this sounds like a major defect....
I'd write the president of Rolex S.A. here is his address: [email]thebigkahuna@scratchesonmyrolex.com

This thread is funny. Ive owned several new watches, they all scratch no matter what you do. Its natural if you are wearing them.

That being said & Im acting rational, I still wondered if there was some kind of crystal cover I could get put on my watch similar to what I have on my iphone and ipad glass. Zagg hasnt let me down yet!

Im enjoying my watch. I cant imagine it sitting in the box untouched.
