I agree that the LEs of the Speedys are getting silly but owning the original model is still appealing to me, not so much for the Wis-ness, I made up that word, that's mine, sucker but to be a part of the history and greatest story of any watch imho that will also impress the girlies

Agree. Even if you take away the space connection which I personally don't care about, it's still one of the most iconic watches in history, the design is timeless just like the Submariner. Can't go wrong with a speedy.
