Thanks again everyone for the nice comments, really wasn't ready to pull trigger site unseen but the watch in person is really overwhelming !!

Wrist presence seems huge to me unlike my other Daytona's if that can even make sense

It is perfectly proportioned and not an ill fit as he called it..Sorry but he is plain wrong! It is distorted in pics and the SS ones are in many pics too depending on position of watch or how it is photographed. I just looked at it and the lugs are perfectly flush with the end links as they are on all of my precious metal watches including my YG YMII which I am wearing right now. I speak from factual experience and that is good enough for me!

PS Tom have no idea why this guy hijacked your thread in the first place!! Congrats and we know he won't be getting one anytime soon not even for half price.

No new technology, face it, they have the movements sitting on the shelves.
A stainless model sells for under 13 grand.
10 ounces of platinum even at 2000 per ounce would only be 20 grand.
Do I have to go on?

Well then why buy any precious metal watches then?

Hmmm because we like the way they look and feel perhaps?

To each his own.

In fact why buy a platinum Patek 5070 for twice as much as a gold one?

Just saying...Same movement different dial and metal no new technology.

Don't get me wrong, I would be the first to pick up one of these if I had an extra 75 G's burning a hole in my pocket.
I just think its funny how Rolex can mark up an item 4-5 times it's actual cost and get it without question.

I wouldn't I'd be happy to "just" stick with WG for the 5070 OR 5970.

There are some good deals available on the 5070-- thanks for reminding me :)

Actually if you truly understood 5070's you would understand that the P is by far most collectible as they only made them for less than a year and less than 200 of them. It is far more desirable to true Patek collectors and also extremely scarce as so few made. That is an entirely different topic though. I am surprised how many people are crashing what is a major day in a fellow forum brothers life as he is getting his grail watch which he has wanted for months. I hope that if and when you all ever post a major day of joy when you get your grail people don't rain on your parade.

You can't base price of a product on raw material cost.

If you want to play that way, then exactly how much raw steel is in the steel Daytona?

Probably less than $200 worth. And the steel costs what... $13,000 now????

This is true-- one could say the same for diamonds. If you took the same diamond with no name and that of Graff or equivalent, you would be paying a huge premium.

Hey Tom,
I'm guessing that weight will slow you down... Gotta lose enough weight to offset the watch.
