Great shot of the watch. I wonder who owns that one now!

I believe it was a 16550 and Shepard asked them to put a gmt dial in it...

I would love the new explorer 2 with a gmt dial on it...

Kit packed..

Will update on Monday. But the first training trip is a three day trek across the lakes taking in the highest peaks in England...

Training hikes are always a good thing.

Wish more thru-hikers on the AT did that - less junk would get discarded trailside as they lighten the load 1 to 2 days into the trek

I'm only a segment hiker - just day hikes between trailheads - but I see more trash from the Northbounders this time of year...

So why the explorer 2? And why the new version over the old one?

Well, the main reason is the legibility of the dial. In all light conditions. It is superior over the sports watches.

It's also the most robust of all the current watches...

The dial displays 24 hours but us fixed and can't clog up like a gmt or submariner.

Its waterproof for any normal situation, and it can stay on your wrist 24 hours a day...

In truth black or white dial; personal preference. I think the black dial looks better, but have decided to use the white dial on this trip...

It is also a better watch than the previous version; better movement, better anti shock, better visibility on the dial, and you can actually see the markers at night...

The only downside is the case is a little big; in my opinion...

Steve,

Looking forward to this adventure.

Do you find many watch "Rolex" wearers amongst your fellow explorers?

Envy your exciting adventures!!

Look at that - You're on the top of a mountain and it's not even 10:30am. You accomplish more by 10:30 in the morning than I do by....10:30 the NEXT morning!

Great shots and posts, Steve! As the new white ExpII is one of my favorites, I'll be watching these threads with great interest. My ExpII can live vicariously through yours!

Hi,
I have seen two people wearing them..
One person with a GMT master on the greenland icecap, and a whole dial explorer 2 also in greenland.

I wish one day, my health and situation will allow me to live up and go on similar expeditions. Even if mini ones. You inspire me. Cheers, mate!

You are in England, right? I went to college in Cambridge as an exchange student back in the day. I love Cambridge and got so many memories there.

Maybe if I'm back one day I'll look for you to do something for a weekend or so.
