My money was held up for a month before it was returned via Paypal.
The most concerning thing of all was the listing was removed (within 3 days) before I had a chance to leave negative feedback to this trusted seller. No doubt OP will retrieve his funds but is this a conspiracy by ebay? Why remove listings before true feedback can be given or even at all?
Think of the thousands of listings across the world and millions being held up by Paypal- sorry for the rant but it totally pissed me off.

Normally you would claim against PayPal rather than eBay.

If they find in your favour, then PayPal will reimburse you and they will then seek to reclaim the funds from the seller/scammer (and I have seen a number of suggestions that they use extremely aggressive debt collectors to do so).

Hello everyone.

Good and bad news -
The watch unfortunately was a scam and immediately after paying the seller stopped responding to my emails. However the day after he sent me a DHL tracking number which when searched was not a legitimate tracking number. I contacted ebay and within 2 days paypal had sent me a full refund. I am unable to leave a negative feedback as the seller is under investigation. The only sting is I have had to wait 5 working days to access the refund as paypal claim they need to retain the money for security reasons.

On the one hand it is a shame about the watch but on the other I am actually pleased with the result as I now have faith in ebay/paypal with expensive purchases.
Some may think I'm a complete idiot but I have actually since bought a rolex daytona in the same way. It is yet to arrive and again it may well be a scam but at the end of the day my money is safe. Just make sure money back guarantee available on the ebay listing. Everyone likes a bargain.

Pleased to hear it worked out well and e-bay did the right thing, it still worries me with some of these dealers that an empty box is going to turn up, then the fun will start, even taking a video of the opening will lead to conjecture. Hope all goes well with your new deal!

The seller ID is hijacked.
So if you did give a negative feedback it would be to a person that had absolutely nothing to do with the the transaction.
Do you think a legitimate seller is going to offer BLNR for $4500?

You got away lightly the first time (well, you will once PayPal actually refund your money), but in part that was because the scammer was so inept - sending a false tracking number.

It gets much more complex when a scammer sends you a genuine tracking number - especially if what they have sent you is a good quality fake (unlike the Daytona that you linked to, which looks like a very bad fake). That's when it might not be so easy to get your money back, especially if the scammer claims to eBay/PayPal that they sent you a genuine watch, and you have returned a fake to them.

eBay's Money Back Guarantee is a useful thing to have to fall back on, but there's no reason to go around tempting fate.

how hard is it to go to chrono24, punch in the model, sort by price both directions, hit he middle, and here you have a ballpark figure. i mean that takes seconds to do. if model is rare, go above the aberage and find that model. how do people shop on ebay willy nilly for items that cost few monthly salaries to some? i dont get it,

Ever heard the saying "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" ?

If you paid for the faketona already, don't expect PayPal to be as cooperative in refunding you the second time around. They will probably suspect you as being involved in the fraudulent activity, and rightfully so.

You can't keep making stupid high dollar purchases on eBay and expect PayPal to keep footing the bill and refunding you, they will eventually tell you to beat it.

I used a reverse google image search and found a foreign post where people are talking about this Daytona the seller is getting ripped off on AGAIN.

I only translated a few of the replies but it appears this watch was on crono24.com and most responders say it is fake. (If I read correctly)

Personally I use a Safari extension on my Mac called backtrack, so all I do is right click on the image and choose 'google image search'
There are other extensions available for firefox but I can't verify they work as I don't use firefox or IE. Google "reverse google image search extensions" and you should be able to find one.

edit: FYI it's almost impossible to do on a tablet or phone, you need a real computer to get the URL or add extensions.
