My Omega was a present to myself for graduating the university and getting a good job where i have worked for 4 hard years so far.
The LV was just a bonus, i figured, if i was to ever own a new Rolex, this was the time. Now or never. Never looked back since, both watches are some of my best purchases so far. It will be a privilege to wear them for the rest of my life and remember my young days.

A little over a week ago is when I officially ordered my first one (SS Sub C). It's in celebration of:
1) surviving the past 35+years 2) desiring ONE timepiece to join me in measuring out the next 35+ years |

This is a GREAT thread.
I will add my list. Mine: SS Sub - Promotion (and financial milestone) at work/ 30th B-day Gift SS/P YM - To match my wife's YM SS Daytona - 40th B-day, it's in the safe until I turn 40. Normally bad luck to buy before birthday but the mrs. couldn't let the opportunity pass - and to torture me for a few years! :-) Casio G-Shock - 'cause I need something to make me feel young and sporty still! lol Hers: SS Ladies Date - Not sure of the milestone but she purchased it before we met SS/P YM - 30th Birthday We are starting a dangerous trend the Mrs. and I. Be careful if you are planning to marry a fellow Rolex junkie! -Pete

To remind myself of lesser times and how lucky I am - I don't take anything for granted, especially my finances. Every time I look at that watch I remember a life lesson I learned, the hard way.
I owned an auto repair business (transmission shop - each job was about $2,000) in Cleveland during this tough economy. I ran it for over two years before selling it for a huge financial loss. More than enough to pay off my house. I went through hell and back. I never thought I'd have to tell my wife she couldn't go grocery shopping because there was no money. I took a calculated risk and failed - HARD. Many times at the car repair facility, I had an opportunity to make money (several thousand dollars at a time) the dishonest way, but I made the conscious choice to maintain my integrity all those years even if cost me very dearly. The watch reminds me that you must always do the right thing, no matter what the cost or hardship. Integrity is priceless. My watch is symbolic of the fact that even when it was so tempting to be dishonest and there was zero chance of getting caught - I didn't sell out and stayed true. I had just lost several hundred thousand, so I spent some money on a rolex - hey what's another few grand?! At the time I was losing that much every week! I just wanted something material to show for my experiences. I do believe in Karma. To make a long story short, I was hired (within a week of selling my business) by one of my own customers who remembered my honesty! I was so happy to see him in the interview room. Small world. I took out my frustrations from the business on the new job in a very positive way. I worked my tail off for him, and he promoted me (again) 3 months ago. Two promotions in less than a year from someone who simply believed in me - after 10 years of politics and getting overlooked it all make sense now. Sometimes we are meant to struggle so we can cherish the good times. I will never forget the lessons learned thanks to my GMTIIc. -Up. |

great inquiry!
well, for me, it was all by chance and wasn't really planned at all. to make a long story short, when I passed the CPA exam, earned my MBA and finally got promoted to corporate accounting manager with a Fortune 100, we decided it was time to take a very long vacation in pure shopping heaven, aka Hong Kong. while there, I somehow convinced myself to quit being so stingy and cheap and ....picked up my very first Rolex, the esteemed GMT Master II!! and as they often say, the rest is history!
